Cannes fête le Moore pas la guerre (Liberation)
Edited on Sun May-23-04 11:42 PM by burrowowl

(The jury defended itself against charges that it placed politics over film-making in the award of the palme d'or to the creator of "Fahrenheit 9/11" )

P. Azoury critiques Moore's film as being 'ugly, sometimes demagogic and facile as to content' .....

The author said that Jaques Cousteau's film 'Monde du silence' (filmed in 1955 with Louis Malle) that won the prize had merit as a documentary film and that Moore's documentary was a 'dictorship of news. That the award was contextual ... i.e. a political statement rather than a true documentary.

Liberation is more to the left of center than Le Monde.

Edited to cut doubling of headline and add the Newspaper.

2. Probably because the article cited...
... is in French. Not many people on the east coast up right now, so that further reduces the number of French-reading people.

At that, it's one reviewer's opinion vs. that of other reviewers right now--without the film being shown in the US, no one has a basis to agree or disagree.

Cheers.

3. what a great play on words
Moore's win was the subject of a long thread on DU over the weekend. But it was worth seeing this article in Lib. just for the clever title.
