Two Britons died when their car was destroyed by a rocket-propelled grenade as it approached a US-controlled checkpoint in Baghdad today, the US military said.
The armour-plated car was attacked near the so-called "assassin's gate", one of the main entrances to the heavily-guarded green zone housing the headquarters of the US-led forces in Iraq.
Checkpoints around the zone, which is also used as a base by foreign contractors, journalists and aid agencies, have been targeted in at least four fatal attacks since January.
The US military and local police said two foreigners had been killed in the latest incident, which happened at around 2pm local time (1100BST). Two people were injured.
