White House rebuffs criticism from ex-Centcom chief
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N24598074.htm

WASHINGTON, May 24 (Reuters) - The White House on Monday brushed aside charges by retired Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni, former chief of U.S. Central Command, that U.S. policies in Iraq have been a failure.

Zinni told CBS' "60 Minutes" it was time to change course in Iraq. "The course is headed over Niagara Falls. I think it's time to change course a little bit or at least hold somebody responsible for putting you on this course. Because it's been a failure," he said on Sunday.

The White House dismissed the criticism, saying President George W. Bush does not look for advice from Zinni, who served as commander-in-chief of U.S. Central Command from 1997 to 2000.

"I recognize he's a retired general who certainly stated his position," White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters. "But the president looks to those active commanders who are working to implement our policies and build a safer world to make America more secure."

1. Active Generals = Controllable Generals
They're probably pissed that they can't get to Zinni like they can active duty Generals who cannot criticize the CIC.

16. "Active Generals = Controllable Generals"
Propagandroids. Part soldier, part neocon mouthpiece. Of course to fit the neocon control relay in, they had to remove the honor module.

2. short for... "retired, has-been... sour grapes"
their arrogance lets them continue to be dismissive of those whose advice was correct and for whom the evidence is so (sadly) obvious for the public to discern. McClellan's response just leaves hanging... for anyone listening.... "well since things have gone so badly, why are you still listening to those same commanders? Doesn't that mean (still listening) that the best we can expect is more of the same?"

5. Remember, this was Chimpy's Middle East envoy as well...

They definitely wanted his advice at SOME point. Until he started telling them that "do whatever Sharon wants" isn't really a viable strategy.

7. "Bush does not look for advice from Zinni" - Bush appointed Zinni
Special Envoy to the Middle East. It seems he was dumped after they didn't like what they heard.

Another flip. And flop.

19. BushCo sent Zinni to the ME. BushCo didn't like what he said.
BushCo sidelined Zinni. Zinni quit and has become more vocal.

12. The White House mildly blows it off
& their cohorts in the right wing go to work with their typical smear program.

Zinni has already been called anti-Semetic.

What next? Traitor?

21. the Feith-based OSP already called Zinni a traitor
according to the three-part article by Lt. Col Karen Kwiatkowski in The American Conservative.

They also said the best thing Colin Powell could do was resign.

This, of course, was while they were giving away state secrets to Chalabi and lying to violate the Nuremberg Principles to invade a non-threatening country.

And because Bush and his crew have so totally fucked up, they are now being taken down by the same people they ignored.

13. Well, Retired Generals are the only ones free to criticise the CIC and
if an active general criticizes the CIC he becomes a retired general. Did any of the mediawhores point that out to scotty lapdog?

20. good Kerry commercial
just put together snippets of Scotty's brush offs of former Bush and Republican administration officials that have turned into scathing critics... how he can explain away how so many good people with life careers in service to their country can suddenly turn "political" and are no longer interested in "building a safer world" and just "trying to sell books" and "sour grapes" and whatever else they've come up with...oh yeah.. and "working for the Kerry Administration" or are "Kerry contributors..."

22. "Rebuffs"? since when has "la-la-la-la-la-la
I'm not listening" counted as a rebuff? It was already painfully obvious that Bush doesn't listen to advice from outside his junta, Scottie. What you're meant to do is answer Zinni's points, and try to make it look as though you ever had a plan more complicated than "fight; get oil". Jesus, I think even Goebbels must be embarrassed b ythe quality of White House argument these days.
