18 killed in Baghdad clashes
18 killed in Baghdad clashes

May 25, 2004

Baghdad was yet again the scene of bloodshed yesterday, with at least 18 people dead after clashes between US troops and militiamen, and seven more killed in blasts, one just outside the coalition (sic - occupation) headquarters.

Hospital officials said 18 civilians were killed in a series of clashes in the populous Sadr City neighbourhood overnight, but the US-led coalition (sic) put the figure at 26 and said all were militiamen loyal to rebel cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

Four people were killed and two wounded in an explosion that blew up an armoured civilian vehicle just outside the sprawling complex housing the US-led coalition (sic) that administers Iraq, a military spokesman said.

11. 28 guys from Macedonia
Another 70 dudes from Albania. The Mongolians are hefty contributors of troops, with 160. 121 Latvians, and another 104 Norwegians.

130,000 Amrericans, 10,000 Brits, and another 5,000 from the other 28 countris combined. There are contributors to the "coalition" and then there are contributors.

It was my understanding that the Latin American troops were involved in their own alliance with Spain (kind of like a Commonwealth thing), and their troops were leaving with Spain's.

2. Isn't it amazing?
All that lead flying around, and everyone we kill just happens to be a bad guy! I guess they figured out how to manufacture 'homing bullets' that don't shoot innocent people.

Why won't they just ever come clean and admit that they have a bunch of scared, heavily-armed youngsters who are shooting at anything that moves, and that sometimes they kill the wrong person? Does denying it mean it didn't happen? Whose 'hearts and minds' are they trying to win over - the Iraqi's or ours? 'Cause I think the Iraqis have a pretty good idea who is a bad guy and who isn't...

6. THE GOOD vs THE BAD

"The Iraqi people are now free. And they do not have to worry about the secret police coming
after them in the middle of the night, and they don't have to worry about their husbands and
brothers being taken off and shot, or their wives being taken to rape rooms. Those days are
over."覧覧Paul Bremer, Administrator, Coalition Provisional Authority, Sept. 2, 2003

涛One thing is for certain: There won't be any more mass graves and torture rooms and rape
rooms."覧覧Bush, press availability in Monterrey, Mexico. Jan. 12, 2004

8. There are no civilians left in Iraq.
It's amazing how the military always "know" that they've killed millitants and not civilians.
