Authorities search truck, cite "homeland security"
Police pulled over an 18-wheel truck at approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday when its tags appeared altered.

A two-hour search followed and involved FBI agents, as well as Birmingham and Gardendale police. Traffic on Interstate 65 was shut down in both directions because of concern about explosives on the truck.

Members of the Secret service and the Homeland Security Department conducted the search. The search intensified when explosive-sniffing dogs reacted to the truck’s contents.

1. Some cop friends of mine said about K-9s
that they aren't all they seem. A lot of times if a cop wants probably cause, he can just coax the dog into barking, giving him an excuse to search.

Not saying it happened here, but you know, if I'm a cop, and I've just tied up an interstate for an hour or so, and I start wondering what my boss and the media is going to say, I might be a little tempted to command my K-9 to bark and blame the whole thing on him.

and subsequently taken to the "interrogation" room. As it turned out, the dog had detected the scent of another dog on me.
