Reliant Energy to power up military installationsThe U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Reliant Energy Inc. a $35.9 million contract to supply electricity to several military installations.
Those facilities include Andrews Air Force Base, home to Air Force One, and the Walter Reed Medical Center.
The 17-month contract calls for Reliant Energy to supply 93 megawatts of electricity beginning July 4. The Houston-based firm said the contract will save taxpayers $11.7 million when compared with the regulated standard offer service.
Other entities participating in the contract include the Carderock Naval Weapons Testing Center, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Adelphi Labs and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
