Kerry Slams Bush, Saudis On Gas - "clandestine draft"
He accuses the president of having a "clandestine draft" that's turned National Guard and Reserve service into "almost active duty."

(CBS/AP) Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry said Tuesday that drivers are paying a "Saudi-George Bush gasoline tax" because the president hasn't pressured oil-producing nations to increase their output.

Kerry, speaking the day after President Bush sought to rally international support in Iraq, also said he has "a level of trust" with world leaders that would allow him to repair relationships he says Bush has damaged with his foreign policy.

"I believe it will take a new president of the United States to clear the air, to re-establish American credibility in the world and to be able to reach out to leaders, not just in the Middle East, but all over the world," the Massachusetts senator said. "Now, I think that what you want to acknowledge or how you approach it is a matter of private diplomacy."

Kerry, noting his nearly 20 years on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he has met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah and Jordan's King Abdullah II, among others in the region.

2. Kerry worked for 10 yrs with world leaders crafting the Kyoto Protocol.
They know he understands their global concerns for their economies and the environment.

And that's why, since he's been around Washington for quite a few years, he knows where the world leaders stand on wanting Bush the hell out of there.

In this article,Kerry said:

"I believe it will take a new president of the United States to clear the air, to re-establish American credibility in the world and to be able to reach out to leaders, not just in the Middle East, but all over the world," the Massachusetts senator said. "Now, I think that what you want to acknowledge or how you approach it is a matter of private diplomacy."

Keep saying that, Mr. Kerry. Let it become your public mantra.

3. Kerry's right. Bush has irreparably harmed his own credibility.
The world cannot trust him. The people loathe him.

The only hope for repairing all the damage is a new President.

5. how about this line:
"While in Portland, Kerry also held a fund-raiser with about 350 people, including
Oscar-winning actress Patty Duke and her son, Sean Astin, that brought in about
$800,000 for the campaign, Kerry said. "

Wasn't Sean Astin on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Mahrer," sucking up to Bush and talking about what a strong, resolute leader he was?
Guess he flipped.

6. I saw that, too
It's amazing how many normal people (even rich and famous ones, like Sean Astin) have completely changed their perspectives on the BFEE.

I also had no idea that he was Patty Duke's son.

7. Sean Astin sounded like a blathering asshat on that show
I remember watching it, and screaming at the tv for him to shut up! He wouldn't let anyone else get a word in, and he sounded like a political dummy, honestly.

Not so sure I want him on our side... but I'll take the Samwise Gamgee incarnation. :D

8. JK be careful what you wish for...

If the Republicans decide to give the nomination to someone other than Bush, you could be campaigning for your new opponent. It would be wise to temporarily strike the words "a new president" as the solution to our ills. Promoting yourself by name is still your best campaign strategy.
