Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is considering removing environmental requirements for a multitude of gasoline blends as one way to increase supplies of gasoline and fight soaring prices, Commerce Secretary Donald Evans said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Evans said the cost of gasoline, which hit a record nationwide average of $2.06 this week, was already having an impact on driving habits, with people making fewer trips to the store.

1. easy--shut down public transportation and shut off air & power
to orphanages, nursing homes, and inner city schools. Problem solved, the RNC way.

5. Drilling in ANWR will give us oil how many years from now???
I hate those high gas prices but removing environmental regulations is BS. This is just so those gas guzzling can even waste more gas.

I drive a fuel-efficient car and have limited my driving extremely. I don't waste my money on any extras or fun things like going to the movies to compensate for the additional expenses I have with gas.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Most people depend on their car to get to work. If the price of a necessary product (like gas) increases dramatically, and people are on a limited income, they have to save in other places. So, they just buy less or cheaper groceries and stuff.

7. Just like they stuck it to California for having strong environmental
laws with the fake energy crisis. Now they are sticking it to all America for us refusing to let them drill in the ANWR. Our country is being run by criminals.

12. Didn't Junior just say : I had a plan, but no one listened
The bastards are making people suffer because they didn't get their way. They don't just go after individuals who don't give in to them- they get revenge on the whole country if it serves their purposes. Yes, they are criminals.

9. Why not reduce, rather than boost, gas supplies?
Edited on Wed May-26-04 07:44 PM by downstairsparts
Even Richard Nixon, during the energy crisis, as I recall, imposed energy policies to reduce our reliance on fuel. All office buildings had to reduce their thermostat to 68 degrees in the winter. Daylight savings was extended (or withheld, I forget which), giving farmers an extra hour or daylight to get their work done.

Why not teach people to consume less than more?

If Richard Shithouse Nixon could impose fairly simple energy saving ideas, why can't what's his name we have in the White House now?

10. IT was not Nixon
But the Democratic Congress that took the heat for passing laws to encourage energy conservation, Reduced the speed limit to 55, increased tax incentives to look for more domestic oil (and even made sure the Alaska pipeline was funded and finished).

Nixon took the Credit but the lead on these items was Congress, a DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS. Today's GOP Congress is not about to do anything that might get someone mad at them.

15.  AP edited out Clinton reference
The story across the wires was changed a few hours ago. Thought I was going a bit bonkers since in the original post I mentioned the Clinton reference and checking the story again a little while ago it was gone. Found it about 11 pages in on a google search, a men's mag site or something that doesn't get auto updates from the AP apparently.

Anyway, the original last paragraph is as follows:

Evans said the United States would probably have access currently to an extra 1 million barrels of oil per day if former President Clinton had not vetoed legislation in 1995 to allow drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.
