WaPo- 2006 Cuts In Domestic Spending On Table
<http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A58762-2004May26.html>

<snip>

The White House put government agencies on notice this month that if President Bush is reelected, his budget for 2006 may include spending cuts for virtually all agencies in charge of domestic programs, including education, homeland security and others that the president backed in this campaign year.

Administration officials had dismissed the significance of the proposed cuts when they surfaced in February as part of an internal White House budget office computer printout. At the time, officials said the cuts were based on a formula and did not accurately reflect administration policy. But a May 19 White House budget memorandum obtained by The Washington Post said that agencies should assume the spending levels in that printout when they prepare their fiscal 2006 budgets this summer.

"Assume accounts are funded at the 2006 level specified in the 2005 Budget database," the memo informs federal program associate directors and their deputies. "If you propose to increase funding above that level for any account, it must be offset within your agency by proposing to decrease funding below that level in other accounts."

more...

Perhaps more career bureaucrats will vote Democratic in November.

This shows just how firm a grip Grovel Norquist has on the cabal's ear.

1. If Bush is reelected, kiss all social programs goodbye
including Social Security, which will be privatized to the extent that boomers like me will get nothing. All this crook has done his entire time in office is bait and switch. If he says in a speech that he supports a program, you can bet your bottom dollar it will be cut the day after.

2. YES...BUT!!!
your reasons are wrong...Bush has increased domestic NON DEFENSE spending around 12.5% per year...across the board on all kinds of stuff. He isn't going to "cut" anything, but he is going to FORCE cuts eventually by bankrupting the welfare state. This is my theory...the pubs have given up on reducing the size of government, so they are going to EXPAND it like there is no tomorrow...push for massive increases in every program...making them unsustainable, and force them to collapse under their own weight...bankruptcy NOT through cuts, but through unsustainable spending growth.

3. So, the Republicans finally get their way about social programs...
This was the domestic policy agenda of the neocons...stop spending Federal funds on anything that might help people, especially poor and minority people. Be sure that money only goes to the elite.

8. Does this idiot have sawdust for brains?
I'm speechless that he would even let this come out before the election. Cutting educationa and homeland security? But I thought he was the education president and keeping us secure from terra? Just when I think he can't get any stupider he does. Please let me go to sleep until November when John F. Kerry becomes our new President!
