3. This looks like a solid lead for Kerry
If Nader is polling at 6-7 points and JFK still has a 3 point lead we are looking very strong in the Keystone state. Its still way too early to get excited about poll numbers though.

5. This isn't the time to get overconfident.
but a VERY reasonable assumption is that most of the Nader supporters will also vote for Kerry on Election Day. All the experts seem to agree that at this point, anything less than 50+ percent for the incumbent is BAD NEWS (for him).

Keep a close eye on Diebold though.

6. I think Kerry will take the state...in fact I bet by a wider margin
than Gore kicked Bush's ass in PA.

Only the seriously whacked right wing counties may go Bush...including my county which has more Dems but they are afraid someone will take all their weapons caches....

23. I Agree Here is Why
I live in PA and from everything I see, he will win it. We in Philadelphia have a relatively popular Democrat for Mayor, and a popular Governor who is also a Democrat.

I predict Kerry takes PA by at least 4%. It won't be that close.

Also look at it this way do you think anyone who made it out to vote for Gore last time is going to all of a sudden vote Bush? No way, but people who didn't make it out to vote last time for Gore will definately make it out this time to vote.

10. Also keep in mind
that this poll was done May 24 and 25, the day of and the day after Bush's Iraq speech. And his approval rating is 41 percent, 5 points less than his previous low of 46 percent.

As a Pennsylvanian, I'm excited about this. I believe Kerry will win here, but we definitely need to avoid overconfidence.

* would lose by MORE
after that pathetic lame-ass speech. I've yet to meet anyone here in Pittsburgh who thought he said anything worth hearing. and most of us think his constant repeating of the words "terra" and "terraists" very, very sad and sick.

20. Zogby
I think I read the same poll yesterday - Zogby had Kerry up 8 points over Bush in PA. It was in an article in US News & World Report - which referred to Theresa Heinz Kerry as "Mother Theresa" - as she is known in Pittsburg, as a result of all that the Heinz foundation has done for PA. With Theresa as first-lady-to-be, Karl Rove is wasting his time in PA.

18. A winning strategy
Keep IRAQ in the headlines. I found the following on Kerry's blog (http://blog.johnkerry.com/blog/archives/001795.html):

How nervous is George Bush about the political impact of the war in Iraq on his campaign?

Well, as The Gadflyer helpfully points out, you can't even find the word Iraq on George Bush's homepage:

"What's interesting is that, not only does the word Iraq not appear anywhere on the homepage, but neither the Homeland nor National Security links mention Iraq in their main text. I could only find one mention, in a sublinked story on the National Security subpage, of Iraq. It was a link pertaining to the president's major, nationally-televised speech from Monday night. That's how far they have to bury the news from Baghdad. I couldn't find video footage of the USS Lincoln landing either."

Looks like our "War President" is hiding from his own shadow these days.

26. Kerry turns tables on Bush in Pa. - MSGOP
HARRISBURG, Pa. - John Kerry has erased President Bush’s lead in the swing state of Pennsylvania, according to a poll that found growing opposition to the war in Iraq.

Democrat Kerry is supported by 44 percent of the state’s registered voters while 41 percent favor Republican Bush, making the race about even, according to the poll released Thursday by Quinnipiac University. Independent Ralph Nader draws 6 percent and 7 percent are undecided.

A similar poll in April showed Bush leading with 45 percent to Kerry’s 39 percent.

Only 42 percent of the respondents in the new poll said the war in Iraq was “the right thing for the United States to do,” continuing a decline from 52 percent in a March poll.

27. The Kerry meetup
that I went to here in repuglican southcentral PA was packed and boisterous tonight. We've got the feelin'!!! Everyone was so stoked to get out there and register voters, set up tables at every little public event we can get our hands on, raise money, you name it.

Sen. Kerry, this Keystone State of Pennsylvania shall be thine come November!!!

And one of the committees was called "Republicans for Kerry" -- there were a bunch of disgusted Republicans there who want Bush OUT!

Woo-hoo!

30. Kerry actually wins PA 54-46. At least 2/3 ( undecided+Nader) go to him.
Edited on Fri May-28-04 08:59 PM by TruthIsAll
Actual Kerry = Kerry + 2/3(undecided,Nader)

54= 44 + 2/3(15)
