Pentagon surprised by Bush's prison pledge
Washington - Pentagon officials were caught by surprise by President George Bush's announcement on Tuesday that the notorious Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad was to be torn down, The New York Times said on Thursday.

"This office was not aware of any plans to raze Abu Ghraib or build another prison," a Pentagon spokesperson told the daily, insisting that he remain anonymous lest he was seen as contradicting the president.

A White House official, who also asked not to be identified, told the daily it was Bush's idea to include the announcement in a speech on Tuesday, in which he outlined his strategy to hand over power to an interim Iraqi government on June 30.

6. I heard that he wants us to land on the Sun
At the same time that they land on the Sun he will then stop the torturing of prisoners in Iraq and admit that it was his fault.

7. I'll bet they already had plans
I'll bet they already had plans for a huge modern prison system contract with Hellibutton anyway. Gotta build a new Iraq, you know. Make it look like Disneyland -- Main Street USA -- Make it look the way freedom looks on TV!

Gotta build army bases too -- to defend the oil fields we stole fair and square. Oh Heavens to Betsy, Yes! There's plenty left on the post-war to-do list they didn't tell us about.

Definitely they had plans for a new modern prison system anyway. If I were a fascist criminal War President, I'd use tax payer money to build a Gulag, wouldn't you? Hey, gotta have someplace to put all those freedom haters and mother killers and father rapers...

16. It's scary
It's scary, but it's the only correct word to use for the system that has apparently been cultivated under this rogue government of ours.

-- Just read some sections of Pres. Gore's speech. Wow!

4. Unbelievable..The dictatorship of Bush ignores Congress once again..
"Bush's announcement also surprised US lawmakers, including the Senate subcommittee which oversees reconstruction spending in Iraq, the daily said."

"Separately, The New York Times on Thursday quoted Miller as saying that Abu Ghraib, already used during the regime of Saddam Hussein as a torture and execution centre, would be vacated by US forces by August"

10. He's not gonna.......
......if this idiot really wanted to win hearts and minds, the first thing he should have done in March 2003 is tear down the prison and make a big spectacle of it. Invite all of the press, UN, Red Cross, everybody. Front page news across the world, America is good, removes torture palace, etc. That one thing would have done far more good than anything shrubbie has done in his term. But aside from the fact that he doesn't really care about that stuff and that we never should have been there and he enjoys the power of being able to torture people and Rummy is addicted to war and the fundies think they can Christianize the world and we can torture the Islam right out of them A-rabs....

12. I wouldn't worry...
for three years now Shrub has been promising things in speeches, and except for two invasions and a tax cut, hasn't delivered on a single thing.

For a sure bet on what WON'T happen, listen to what he plans to do.

14. Hey, it's just a promise in a speech ...
it's not like it's something the U.S. is really going to do.
