Troops Escorting Prisoners Attacked
Edited on Fri May-28-04 08:07 AM by loyalsister
And so it begins. Everything that surrounds this issue is going to be filled with enormous danger for soldiers AND citizens who had nothing to do with it...

ABU GHRAIB, Iraq (AP) — U.S. soldiers escorting a convoy of prisoners released from the Abu Ghraib facility briefly exchanged fire with unknown assailants Friday after they stopped in the middle of a highway outside the Iraqi capital.
More than a dozen buses had just left the Abu Ghraib facility — the center of a scandal involving abuse of detainees by American soldiers — when shots were fired from buildings near the freeway.

Before the exchange, U.S. forces in Bradley fighting vehicles halted the convoy of buses for an unknown reason. Hundreds of relatives parked their cars, blocking traffic in both directions, and rushed the buses to find their loved ones.

1. So they round up all these people
The majority of them innocents, and then abuse them and let them go.

What is this, a terrorist indoctrination camp? Did shock and awe just not piss off enough people for BushCo?

2. I gave up
trying to find any kind of reasonable explanation for their actions long ago. I learn of something they have done that defies all logic everyday. I am seeing this unfold with astonishment.

3. Didn't this happen a couple of weeks ago

when released prisoners were driven two hours out of Baghdad, followed by relatives, and left in the middle of the desert? And isn't it funny how it happened to stop right in the line of "enemy" fire--was it actually a setup? Didn't the people in the Bradleys know the release was going on? If anything, they should have escorted the buses. If there were enough relatives in cars that they blocked traffic, why not simply let the prisoners be driven home from Baghdad? How difficult is it to organize this stuff?

4. More than a dozen buses
would hold around 500 people, wouldn't they? Hmmmm. I thought these prisoners were "not in there for jaywalking" and were evil terrorists who had "American blood on their hands". But suddenly we're dumping them out by the hundreds?
