Iran says it will resume uranium enrichment if IAEA gives in to US pressur

Iran threatened Wednesday to resume uranium enrichment if the UN nuclear watchdog gives in to pressures from the United States, which is seeking sanctions against Tehran.
Iran agreed last year, under international pressure, to suspend uranium enrichment and allow intrusive inspection of its nuclear facilities. The United States and other countries accuse Iran of running a covert program to develop nuclear weapons and is pushing the United Nations to impose sanctions.

Khatami said there was no reason for Iran to continue co-operation unilaterally in the nuclear dispute.

In Washington, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said the United States "does not think it's appropriate to try to intimidate the atomic energy agency or its board into overlooking many failures of Iran to meet its non-proliferation commitments."

1. "covert program to develop nuclear weapons"- Same CIA that WMD'd Iraq?
The United States and other countries accuse Iran of running a covert program to develop nuclear weapons and is pushing the United Nations to impose sanctions.

Inspectors have also discovered an advanced P-2 centrifuge program that Iran had not reported to the UN agency.

2. Maybe *&co don't have very much imagination.

* was seen shouting "Syria! WMD!" recently, and of course similar *&co shrieks of "Iran! WMD!" have been heard at convenient intervals. It's no secret *&co wants to invade. * gets bored awfully fast: he really needs to march on another capitol to distract attention from Iraq (and ultimately Afghanistan, which should also be scrutinized).

The claims from IAEA (which is I think UN) seem more modest, though the IAEA doesn't seem overjoyed with Iran.

3. I agree - but the IAEA seems unhappy because of US Intel ????
Seems the ultimate source of all the WMD info is our CIA and our neo-con Bush advisors that over-rule the CIA.

4. Well, the IAEA has been on the ground in Iran:

Their sampling there picked up the enriched uranium traces (and I think they actually found the centrifuge).

The WMD spin is certainly from *&co: I don't know whether it is true, although (given the gross history of *&co horsepucky) I think the Administration is NOT entitled to the benefit of the doubt.

On the other hand, *&co may be responsible for encouraging nuclear ambitions: if I were an Iranian looking at current US policy towards the region, I might consider building a few nukes to stick in my pocket as protection against an invasion.

6. Iranian source on somewhat related issue
Western Media Lying About Iran’s Relations With IAEA: Hosseini

Iran’s representative to the Vienna-based UN nuclear watchdog said on Tuesday that the Western media are disseminating lies about Iran’s dealings with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Piruz Hosseini rejected the report by the Reuters news agency claiming that IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei is not satisfied with Iran’s cooperation with the agency.

5. OK so we should expect Iran
to resume uranium enrichment anyday now. The US longs to start another fight in that area of the world.
