Budget cuts slated after election
WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration has told officials who oversee federal education, domestic security, veterans and other programs to prepare preliminary 2006 budgets that would cut spending after the presidential election, according to White House documents.

The programs facing reductions -- should President Bush be re-elected in November -- would also include the National Institutes of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Interior Department.

Many of the targeted programs are widely popular. Cuts could carry a political price for a president who has touted his support for schools, the environment and other domestic initiatives.

A spokesman for the White House Office of Management and Budget said the documents, obtained by The Associated Press, contained routine procedural guidelines so officials could start gathering data about their needs for 2006.

1. Could it be the touted support for schools, the environment, and other
domestic issues is just another set of whoppers we have come to expect? Has this Administration no decency? Why is there no outcry? I know, I know, several hundred billion dollars will have to be cut out of future domestic budgets to fund our little Iraqi adventure. Again, our priorities must be kept in order.

2. I'm sorry, children, but the rich people needed the money more
Oh and you veterans, did you know that Ken Lay is down to only three mansions? How can you be so selfish as to want health care??? It's a time of war! All poor people must sacrifice so the rich can maintain their lifestyles!

6. Oh yeah...missions to the Moon and Mars.
It's needed, but not vital. We should do it when we have the money, not when we have to borrow for it.

7. How about opening gov contracts up to people other than Bush friends?
How much money are we losing on no-bid contracts being given to Bush family and friends? Billions probably.

12. Plenty of boondoggles ...
in the Education department, Transportation & Energy -- wind power, hydrogen subsidies. Hydrogen won't be viable until it's acknowledged that the electricity to get it from electrolysis is cheap, abundant and clean. The hydrogen is a drain on the energy supply, not an enhancement.

9. Repeal the tax cuts for rich folks & corporations....
And no cuts will be needed.

Although the Star Wars boondoggle and the Iraq war (with permanent bases built by Halliburton) would be GOOD cuts.
