Suspicious powder sent to legislature, McLellan's office (anthrax scare)

The Alberta legislature was locked down Friday after 28 suspicious packages containing white powder were sent to various offices in the building.

Police say similar packages were also sent to Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan's constituency headquarters, as well as to the Brownlee Building, which houses the province's Crown prosecutor's office.

Police spokeswoman Annette Bidniak says those two packages tested negative for any dangerous substance.

I was in Edmonton on business and to attend a rally with the Prime Minister.

I went by the Legislature and it was all roped off and there were dozens of police cars, fire trucks and hazmat teams.

I'll post more as I find out what's going on.

I am sure it will be a bunch of hooey, but if anything actually comes of it, I will give the local angle.

On edit - I am placing my money on sugar sent by someone who is against the gun registry law.

They had several buildings roped off - not the one I was visiting.

5. Are you sure it's not bushco trying to drum up support
among Canadians for The War On Terra?
I wouldn't put it past 'em. Sure it's transparent, but so was Ashcroft's dire warnings of impending doom running concurrently with Tom Ridge's "Huh? It's news to me!"
These guys are getting sloppy as their desperation mounts.

Last heard that there are 50 people still in the building and that they will be there for some time until things have been resolved.

Funny when the PM is in town and receives great applause from all the major mayors in the country.
