Valley Iraqi upset with U.S. after trip home

Jabir Algarawi has returned from Iraq dejected and disillusioned.

In December, the north Phoenix resident traveled to his former homeland for the first time in 11 years, eager not only to visit his family in post-Saddam Iraq but excited to play a role in the country's transition from a dictatorship to a democracy.

But now Algarawi's high hopes for the United States to lead Iraq into a nation based on freedoms and democracy have soured.

"I'm very disappointed. I'm very frustrated," Algarawi said last week during an interview at his home.

1. last paragraph speaks volumes
"Iraq is a very traditional culture," Algarawi said. "Every time someone is killed, their tribe or family member will not forget. They will try and get revenge, and if they can't kill a soldier, they will kill any American."
