Kerry running mate: the Hispanic factor
Geraldine Ferraro, Joe Lieberman and now - maybe - Bill Richardson.

Bill who?

Richardson, the governor of New Mexico. You know, the state next door with the pretty yellow license plates.

Granted, presiding over a state with fewer people than metro Phoenix isn't a very prominent platform. But Ferraro and Lieberman weren't exactly household names either - until, that is, they campaigned their way into the book of political superlatives.

In 1984, Ferraro became the first woman to run for vice president. Lieberman became the first Jew when he set his sights on the same job in 2000. This year could be Richardson's turn. The 56-year-old governor could be the first Hispanic in contention to sit a heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

1. Funny, Tucson is only 20% Republican.....
Tucson is the most democrat city in Arizona. Article coming from Tucson republican tickles my funny bone. Republicans will never win Tucson. Having Bill Richardson on the ticket will not increase nor decrease the Hispanic vote. Hispanics across the country vote Democrat, except for the Cubans. If Kerry throws a little bone to the Cubans, he'll get the Cuban vote. Right now, the Cubans are not with that criminal bush.

2. Richardson has said NO.
Lets leave it at that. He promised the people in NM that he would finish out his term. He is a gentle giant as far as I am concerned.

4. Not A Good Move
Too much dirt, the GOP would be sure to bring up the fact that Richardson was Energy Secretary when the Chinese got all those secrets from Los Alamos. Doesn't matter if it was Richardson's fault or not, the Repugnantcans would use it to play into the country's mis-perception that the Dems are weak on defense.

They all say "No" they aren't interested in VP - Clark, Edwards, etc. Doesn't mean much, it's just something I think they say to deflect attention (or presumption) - although Richardson has good reason, honoring his promise to NM.

As for groundbreaking with a "minority" on the ticket, well it went horribly in 1984 and say what you want about 2000, it wasn't enough to get us the White House.

12. The Chinese did NOT get secrets from Los Alamos.
That scientist, I think his name was Wen, was scapegoated by RW'ers to get at Clinton. There were no suitcase bomb plans stolen, or any other nonsense that was propagated by the Limpball crew.

As for a Hispanic, I would rather see a Southerner to solidify the ticket. Chicano's and other LATINOS can wait until one of us rises to that level on our own merits.

13. Since When Did Truth Matter
We're talking about the Repugnantcans who said Al Gore claimed to have invented the internet. When really what Al Gore said was that he was instrumental in the creation of the internet. An accurate statement if confusing to people who don't understand subtleties. But look what the RWers did with it....

5. these are SERIOUS damn times, we are NOT giving out prom prizes
or political guiness entries ... most hispanics (or other thinking fellow human beings) would be insulted to be treated as a "trophy" anything ... all of us would only pride ourselves on being competently selected and not conveniently selected...

besides, Richardson has actually told the press here in NM that he would not accept a VP spot "even at the point of a gun."

11. A two-senator ticket is bad idea
Kerry needs to balance his ticket with someone with executive experience, even a CEO. And... it is bad enough that Kerry will be replaced by a Republican senator, at least for a while - for how long? we should not sacrifice more senate seats.

9. Why can't we just have the best man for the job instead of playing
these stupid games. Soemoen to complement Kerry to make up for weaknesses but someone capable of standing on their own if they need to become Prez.

10. The Democrats need to stick to addressing the Southern factor....
We need the South, and if having a Southern Vice-Presidential
candidate will help (and it may not) the Democrats need to choose one.

Fortunately, we have an abundance of excellent choices:
Edwards, Clarke, and Graham.

14. Richardson said no, and I hope he is not the one..
I have nothing against him, but he does not "fit the bill" , as far as I am concerned..

Kerry has not checked in with me this week though, so I don't know how high up on that "list" Bill is :)

If kerry wants to be bold, he should consider someone like John Lewis, or Loretta Sanchez.. I would enjoy watching B-1 Bob Dornan's head explode :)
