Iraqi council member assassinated
Iraqi council member assassinated

31may04

A LEADING member of the Iraqi Islamic Party was assassinated by gunmen south of Baghdad today, said officials.

"Unidentified gunmen shot dead the head of the party's information department, Kahtan Kazem al-Rubaye, last night shortly after 9:00pm (0300 Monday AEST)," Iyad al-Samarrai said Monday.
The Iraqi Islamic Party led by Mohsen Abdel Hamid is represented in the US-installed Governing Council and was involved in brokering a truce between insurgents and US forces in the restive town of Fallujah earlier this year.

Samarrai said Rubaye was shot dead as he was heading back from his Baghdad office to his home in Mahmudiyah, 30 kilometres south of the capital.

He added that security staff for the party had managed to capture one of the attackers, who had given them the names of some of the other perpetrators

3. All are in danger
I'm sure all members of the Iraq council are targets. Also the members of the interim government to be chosen soon. I think until the people themselves choose the government, all leaders chosen by foreigners are in danger.

4. So he brokered one of those "Custers Truces"...
...the US kept heralding in the papers?

Aren't our "cease fires" grand? We announce a "cease fire" or a "truce", and reporters on the scene report US tanks and infantry moving in from multiple fronts, firefights ongoing. Some "truce" ya got there...

So who killed him? Unidentified gunmen. Could be anyone. Iraqis, a resurrected one-legged Zarqawi <sp>, South African apartheid ops, special forces...

5. I think all the potential rivals of Chalabi will be assassinated or
disappeared by June 30 so that Chalabi the Punxsatawney Phil of Iraq will come out of his hole and assume his preordained role of the savior of Iraq and continue his merry ways of giving away the resources of Iraq to the Americans and Israelis. He will then let loose a reign of terror that even the Shah of Iran would envy. This is what our soldiers are dying for.

7. Baghdad car bomb kills at least four - MG
At least four people, including a woman, were killed and more than 20 wounded on Monday when at least one car bomb exploded in a western Baghdad neighbourhood, witnesses and hospital sources said.

The blast happened on Kindi street in front of a house belonging to Naim Haddad, a former senior Ba'ath official from Saddam Hussein's regime.

An AFP reporter on the scene saw two bodies, one of which had been completely cut in half and the other torn to shreds by the powerful blast.

At the nearby Yarmuk hospital, Doctor Adel Badawi said he had received "two bodies, a woman and a child".

I have a suggestion to help stay organized. Maybe the Adm. should start a forum called 'The Dead' then it will be easier to find the stories about the Iraq killings. Or a daily thread like that guy who does the daily 'Stock Market' thread.

8. I used to do a thread like that
called "Death Toll" last year when the war started, but it became impossible to keep up with it.
