Bill Clinton ready to invade BookExpo
NEW YORK - The book world’s annual national convention, BookExpo America, should mark the convergence of publishing, politics and star power.

At least on opening night.

Bill Clinton, former president and future best-selling memoirist, makes his first official stop on what his literary representative, attorney Robert Barnett, has billed “the mother and father of all roll outs.” Clinton’s memoir, “My Life,” is scheduled for release on June 22 with a first printing of 1.5 million. His keynote speech Thursday at BookExpo is the convention’s biggest event in recent memory.

“I can’t remember anything at BookExpo that compares to this. I’ve never seen such anticipation,” said Mitchell Kaplan, the longtime owner of Books & Books in Coral Gables, Fla., and the incoming president of the American Booksellers Association, which represents the country’s independent bookstore owners.

3. I already ordered my copy. I think the book was number 8 at the
time, not due for release until the 22. Can't wait to get the book.

6. Who's his publisher?
I would like to keep abreast of any book signing tour that is scheduled. I would stand in the snow for a week to get his sig.

7. Alfred Knopf. I just read that he is going to be on 60 minutes with
Dan Rather to promote the book.

4. This article spares no chance to promote the "liberal media" talking point
Other ex-presidents have attended the booksellers convention, but not all have felt as welcome as Clinton, a Democrat beloved among the politically liberal publishing community.

AP/MSNBC at it again...

Luncheon panel of liberals
Meanwhile, a year after Al Franken and Bill O’Reilly famously faced off at BookExpo, the convention will feature another luncheon panel of liberals (campaign strategist Donna Brazile and author Ron Suskind) against conservatives (author-humorist P.J. O’Rourke and commentator Linda Chavez).

5. I noticed Big Dog's photo and book cover prominently displayed...
... in book stores over the long weekend. "COMING SOON!" the signs proclaimed.

I'm reasonably certain that Freeper-types will walk by these window displays, and their heads will pop right the hell off.

9. That whining sound is not cicadas.
It's a cranky punditocracy gearing up for a round of Clinton-bashing. Keith Olbermann, to my sorrow and disappointment, started in on the Big Dog last night -- in TWO segments.

Oh, well, B.C. will meet up with lots of adoring fans this summer, and sell lots of books...
