Gov. Bush in joking mood over California's recall election
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)

Gov. Jeb Bush wasn't caught short Monday when asked his opinion on California's gubernatorial recall election.

"I'm glad that Gary Coleman lives in California," Bush said, referring to the diminutive former child actor. "A guy like me that believes in limited government probably would have a tough time against a fellow like that because he probably symbolizes smaller government."

Coleman, star of the hit 1978-86 sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes," is one of 195 candidates vying to be elected the top officeholder in the nation's most populous state.

Messages left with Coleman's Los Angeles-based spokesmen were not immediately returned. --

1. Yeah but Jeb...
You're talking about a short person, while the rest of us are talking about diminshed mental capacity. Look in the mirror.

4. Sort of the inverse of Pappy O'Daniel in "O Brother Where Art Thou":
Pappy O'Daniel: "Wouldn't we look like a bunch of Johnny-come-latelies, bragging on our own midget, doesn't matter how stumpy."

WTG, Jeb. Idiot.

5. How typically petty and cruel. Average Bush humor.
That family must have been a riot at the dinner table.

for discrediting our whole election process.

Until the 2000 election, America's electoral process was the envy of the world. Thanks to the Bu$h's, it is now nothing but a big joke.

13. Governor Bush
When the tagline said "Governor Bush" I thought you meant George W. Bush, not Jeb.

To me, he is still former Texas Governor Bush residing in the White House. I may call him "President Bush" if he wins a fair election in 2004.

14. My God
Who's next? Amputees? That'll be a real "knee slapper" if Max Cleland runs for office again! (Get it Jeb? A little pun for you just in case...)
Gary Coleman's candidacy is a joke. But NOT because of his kidney disease which makes him short.
Jeb is a complete - and I hate to say this, but it's the only term that adequately describes him - dou*he bag!!!

:grr:

17. Gary's not in it for winning
I overheard on the radio Gary Coleman's doesn't expect to win, but wants to motivate Californians to vote. Good luck Gary.

Gov Bush, too bad Floridians can't recall him and his brother's votes.

Florida's governor can't be recalled
By Bill Cotterell
DEMOCRAT POLITICAL EDITOR

Florida has had more than its share of electoral chaos, but nothing like California's recall campaign could happen here.

At least, not to a governor.

Florida law provides for recall of city officials and elected officers of charter counties. But once elected, state legislators and Cabinet members are safe until the next election.

The law spells out seven grounds for a recall - malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, drunkenness, incompetence, permanent inability to perform official duties and conviction of "a felony involving moral turpitude." (snip/...)
