U.S. troops at the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea have shown a sharp rise in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) since being transferred here from assignments in Iraq or Afghanistan, according to a report by Stars and Stripes.
The military newspaper quoted division psychologist Capt. Mary Dorritie as saying that although most of the combat-related PTSD cases she treats haven¡¯t been severe, they are the bulk of her caseload.

Symptoms include panic attacks, nightmares, insomnia, hyper-vigilance, flashbacks, outbursts of anger and irritability, concentration and attention problems and the inability to relax.

The captain said 30 percent of soldiers who serve in combat zones develop full-blown PTSD and 25 percent have at least some symptoms, adding that at least half of the soldiers in the zones will develop the mental disorder.
