Honduras May Use Territory As Escape Point (FL-based anti-Castro groups)
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras -- The government is investigating whether Florida-based anti-Castro groups are trying to use Honduras as a way station for Cubans to get to the United States.

"We are investigating the situation because the high number of Cubans who have arrived recently in our territory is suspicious," Immigration Director-General Ramon Romero told reporters Monday.

Romero said Cubans in small boats or rafts have been traveling first to Grand Cayman Island, where they take on supplies, and then continue on to Honduras.

"We believe there are people and organizations in Miami that are financing and promoting the departure of so many Cubans from the island, ... and we are investigating that," he said.

"Why are the rafters coming only to Honduras? Why don't they go to other countries in Central America or the continent?"
