Nearly 8,000 Doctors Call for National Health Insurance
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nearly 8,000 U.S. physicians are calling for government-financed national health insurance, which they say would cover every American while saving billions of dollars.

Ten years after President Clinton's national health plan died in Congress, tangled in complexity and under fierce assault from the medical, insurance and pharmaceutical industries, the doctors argue that private sector solutions have failed.

They contend that work in Congress to enact a prescription drug benefit for the elderly and disabled would shift more government money to private companies while offering little value to consumers.

The doctors would put in place a single-payer system -- essentially an upgraded and expanded version of Medicare, the government health care program for the elderly and disabled.

1. You mean Hillary and Bill were right and the GOP conspired to kill it
and thus Ameircans in the process? If it can be proven the GOP conspired, could they be charges with 'Accessory to Death' of citizens who didn't receive adequate health care because of the GOP conspiring to kill the Clinton health bill?

2. Good question.
Maybe it could be considered depraved indifference? Criminal negligence? Good old-fashioned death-by-apathy-and-greed?

3. Science Fiction
Read that this morning...http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/6518893.htm

Heard it on NPR too. The plan to finance Nation Health Insurance would come from raising taxes on the wealthy, eliminating Bush's tax cuts and doing away with health insurance companies. Well, they just cited a list of the biggest campaign donors and lobbyists. I'd like to live in a utopian society too, but fat chance. I want national health care as much as anyone and believe it would be a boom to business if they didn't have to pay for health benefits even if their share of corporate tax were higher to help fund it, but slim chance. And, "Why do fat chance and slim chance mean the same thing?", my 11 yr. old asks.
