Charges Dropped Against Students Accused of Taping Teacher

PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. -- Some said it was just a prank, but to prosecutors, it was much more serious than that.
Tuesday, a judge decided how to punish five teenagers who allegedly taped a teacher to his chair.

...

"They now are going to spend at least two weeks performing community service, and had they gotten the message earlier, they probably could have avoided those things," said Eric Zahnd, the Platte County prosecutor.

Just days before they were to graduate from Park Hill High, three of the seniors allegedly held a teacher in a chair while one allegedly covered his eyes and the fifth allegedly put a piece of packaging tape across the teacher's chest.

...

KCTV5 News tried to speak to each of the teens and their parents, but no one wanted to comment on camera.

5. Could be the children of democrats
You don't know what political persuasion their parents are so what's what's with the neo-con, Hitler comparisons?

Best I can guess, most gang members are more likely to fall within the Democratic persuasion so anti-social behavior knows no political loyalty.

8. "Most gang members more likely to fall w/i the democratic 'persuasion'?"
I can't wait to hear the reasoning behind that statement.

Enlighten me, please.

10. Not super affluent
This is north of Kansas City but on the Missouri side. I've volunteered in one of the elementary schools, I would say middle class to lower middle class.

4. You cant restrain and assault anyone... 30% of women get sexually
assaulted in some way ... this act was just practace...

they committed a criminal act, they should pay the price..

Unfortunately 'ass rape' is an institutional torture in our prisons, and we have been charged with that by the UN. only they said 'Homosexual Rape'. but the facts are if you don't want to get a serious butt bag'n because your cell mate is pimpin you out for cigarettes.. you better be polite to people...

7. What does this have to do with women?
Did you not see where they allegedly held the teacher in *HIS* chair?

Some people hear the word "restraint" and immediately it's all "Violence against Women" and Rape.

I'm not defending them, but it's really a Mallard Fillmore leap from a stupid high school prank to wife-beating and rape, don't you think?

6. "Charges dropped"??
And the judge still laid 2 weeks sentence on them? Uh, where I come from, when they "drop" the charges against you, that's it, you're out of there.
sounds like they got a light sentence. Community service and a letter of apology does not constitute "dropping the charges" IMO....OH, well, a TV reporter...What do THEY know about Journalism, anyway? Fashion tips and Fun with Aqua Net, sure, but objective reporting?

9. If this trend holds up
People here will have been much more upset over this than the students who drugged their teacher. I find that very interesting. If I had been the victim here I would have been far less out for blood than in the drugging senario.
