10. I watched the whole thing,
and I definitely cried when the Spanish father was talking. That was the dead boy's mother crying in the background.

A couple of the reporters asked the group if they were afraid to speak out the way they were. They said No, and that their sons were fighting over there for the freedom to speak out.

11. They actually asked them if they were AFRAID?
Edited on Wed Aug-13-03 12:52 PM by underpants
Good for them to tell the press what many are really saying.

13. I don't think the word
was actually "afraid", but the implications were that. They may have said "concerned" or something like that, but I was impressed that at least 2 reporters asked that question.

16. On KFI, a local AM talk radio station that is mainly right wing
mentioned that military families were calling for the return of US troops based on their belief that Bush lied about the reasons for a war in IRAQ. The reporter didn't go in to any more detail than that.

This was reported during the news break in between the talk show.

I think KFI is the same radio station that broadcasts Limbaugh.

21. CNN didn't come close
...to giving a sense of the event. The impression one (who hadn't seen the actual news conference) could get from their news clip was that this was a group of anti-war folks with a grudge against the war. They didn't identify the speakers and didn't show the most heart-wrenching testimony.

Close but not good enough, CNN!

I'm glad I caught the replay on CSPAN.

20. Not LBN... locking
There is a good discussion going on here, but normally, events happening on television, as well as "TV Alerts" are not considered Latest Breaking News. If the event involved an important political or government figure, we'd probably allow it to stay in LBN.

There's a boisterous discussion going on about this in the General Discussion forum, and I'd encourage everyone to go here and participate:
