Back To School With Big Brother

(AP) Students in Biloxi public schools started classes this week under the watchful eye of Webcams that will keep track of every classroom and hallway.

School and security officials said they believed Biloxi is one of the first districts in the nation to install cameras in every classroom.

Biloxi started installing the cameras two years ago, and now that the project is complete, there are more than 500 cameras in district schools, said Deputy Superintendent Robert Voles.

when i think about all of the teachers i worked with who read the newspaper or wandered the halls while kids threw desks (and each other) across the room until the bell rang, this camera thing makes me laugh out loud!
if it weren't such a sick, fascist quick fix, it would be completely laughable!

I'd destroy them! pronto! PS - Biloxi is hometown of Trent Lott. Says it all! (Trent Lott Airport, trent Lott Middle School, trent Lott elementary...You get the picture!)

I haven't heard of any gang/drug problems there. It is just a different culture. Biloxi is a casino gambling town. The adults are used to being on video when doing their jobs. There are literally hundreds of these video cameras in each casino. After over 10 years of being on camera pretty much when you do anything in this town, it probably doesn't seem unreasonable to get the kids on tape too.

I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying that, in Biloxi, smile, you're on candid camera...it's a way of life.
