Bush on economy: ‘We’re upbeat’
CRAWFORD, Texas, Aug. 13 — President Bush said Wednesday “we’re upbeat” about the prospects for more job creation and the economy despite soaring budget deficits and a frustratingly high unemployment rate.

BUSH CREDITED TWO rounds of major tax cuts with stabilizing the economy after recession, corporate scandals and a war. He said he had no plans now for another tax-cutting program.
“We feel like the tax relief plan we have in place is robust enough to encourage job growth,” he said.
The president spoke to reporters on his ranch after meeting for two hours with his senior economic advisers.
“We believe strongly that tax relief ... is going to have a very positive effect on economic growth and vitality,” as well as helping create more jobs, Bush said. “We’re upbeat about the chances for our fellow citizens who are looking for work to find jobs.
He urged Congress to restrain spending and to act on legislation limiting personal injury lawsuits and an energy bill.
Bush listed the obstacles to the economy — from the recession, to Sept. 11, to corporate scandals and the war with Iraq.
Now the economy is — having to overcome those obstacles — beginning to recover,” he said.
Democrats and some economists say budget deficits building up under the administration’s policy are perilous for the long term. And a new poll suggests three-fourths of the public consider the current national deficit a problem.

11. Yeah, "Our No Millionaire Left Behind" Program is working!
Must be nice to be the Prez and set records for most vacation days in one year, especially when things are looking so rosey.

“We feel like the tax relief plan we have in place is robust enough to encourage job growth,” he said.

He's been saying this for 2-1/2 years now.

9. Oil prices / profits higher than ever...

Why WOULDN'T a crooked oil man be upbeat about that? He is probably just thinking about all that cash he'll be rolling in once he's done looting this country.

Please God make that in 2005 rather than 2009.

14. Sure he's upbeat
Isn't everyone on the petroleum gravy train? Doesn't everyone have huge family trusts to fall back on if they run a business or two or three into the ground? Why, all those jobs that are gonna get created, boy, just any, any day now, look out Nellie, that rising tide is gonna lift every yacht in the marina!

Probably not so good if you're anchored to the bottom, but hey, that's what choices are all about! Why didn't you choose to be born to fabulous stolen wealth?

15. bush*: "I'll be doing a little SPADE WORK for the '04 campaign"
this statement comes from a guy who doesn't know what a garden tool is, since he has never done any REAL work...IMO, it's just more of that "slavery made us free" crap from his previous speeches...

"And then, of course, I'll be doing a little SPADE WORK for the '04 campaign. (Laughter.) One of the most important political -- (laughter.)

Have a great day. Thank you all."

16. You've got to admit
He has reason to believe that this'll work.

After all look how successful he was at talking the economy down for his campaign. He's "thinking" 'Hey why not, after all it sure worked last time.'

What SOMEONE doesn't realize is that he was pushing things in the direction they were already going last time. Its easy to push a car downhill when its already rolling.

What they're trying now is the hardest push possible. The car might once have been rolling back up the hill, but its stopped and is actually rolling back down now. If he isn't careful it may roll right over him..
