Federal judge overturns Mainer's conviction (selling equipment to India)
A federal judge in Boston has overturned the conviction of two men, one from Kennebunkport, who were found guilty eight years ago of selling equipment that aided India's nuclear missile program.

Maurice Subilia Jr., along with Walter Lachman, of Concord, Mass., were top executives of Fiber Materials Inc. in Biddeford and its subsidiaries in Massachusetts when they were indicted for conspiring and violating export control laws in 1993.

Fiber Materials Inc., which employs people in Biddeford and Presque Isle, continued to receive government contracts after being suspended briefly from doing business with the government.

The company specializes in making advanced composite, high-temperature insulation and industrial materials, and also has offices in Ohio and Scotland.

Most recently, the Senate approved $7 million in funding for the company to develop missile structures and other technology to slow down a missile in flight.
