Calif. Gov. Davis Says He Would Sign Bill for Domestic Partners
AP) - Embattled Gov. Gray Davis announced Saturday he would sign legislation giving domestic partners most of the same legal rights that married couples have. The bill has passed the state Assembly and is scheduled to be considered Monday by the Senate Appropriations Committee. Davis usually doesn't indicate how he feels about legislation before it reaches his desk, but he's done so for a number of bills recently, including measures dealing with access to abortion and driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants

1. Good!
This is both a good policy initiative and good politics...the GLBT community will probably be encouraged to vote "no" on the recall, and the conservatives will turn out, but they won't vote for the Cyborg.

3. Excellent! It would be poetic justice that the "cultural war"
the wingnuts started with this issue would bite them in the ass deciding both California and 2004!

6. he opposed the anti gay prop a few years ago
a few years ago, some anti gay right wing asshole put up on anti gay proposition on the ballot. it was the same crap about how marriage is only between a man and a woman, etc. but gray davis opposed that so i'm not surprised he would do this. sadly, most voters voted for the thing.

7. I remember that!
Yes, you are right. I do remember that - it was on the ballot correct? I hope that people realize the vast difference between Gray Davis and Bustamante.

Do people think that Bustamante would have signed such legislation given the way the candidate he supports for president, Joe Lieberman is basically against gay rights.

What a mess is all I can say. I am glad Gray Davis has done this before the recall!

VOTE NO ON THE RECALL!

8. What does the other candidate think about this issue?
The media loves to promote the other candidate, so what does he think about real issues?

It would be interesting to see what the republican says about this bill. He would have to either anger his right wing base or anger those on the left and in the middle.

Which way will the republican go once someone decides what his opinions are?
