Baby stabbed, thrown in pit toilet - SA

A 30-year-old woman was arrested at a smallholding in Meyerton at the weekend for the attempted murder of her newborn baby, police reported.

Spokesperson Thabo Seete said on Monday the woman apparently gave birth to the baby girl on Saturday. She stabbed the child in the stomach with an umbrella and then threw her into a pit toilet.

We had that happen here in Wisconsin about 15 years ago. The young women that did it dumped her baby in a wayside toilet. I met her when she came to prison, although I'm no expert I can tell you that this women was not completly there. (I used to be a correctional officer in the intake and segregation unit at Taycheedah Correctional in Wisconsin) There was something mentally off with her. She knew that she shouldn't have a baby and with the urging of her, also not totally there, boyfriend she dumped the baby. They even named the baby Wayside Johnny. Did they deserve to go to prison YES but I think we didn't learn from this tradgedy by finding ways to help girls like this. With this case it is obviously a world wide problem.
Do I have any answers, no but I know we should be looking for some.
