Missing Texas Senators Ask Mercy For Staff
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The 11 Texas Senate Democrats refusing to go to the Texas Capitol have sent a letter to their Republican colleagues asking that sanctions against their staff be lifted.

The 11 Democrats have begun their fourth week of a self-imposed exile in Albuquerque to block a GOP-backed congressional redistricting plan in Texas. The Senate Republicans -- who do not have a quorum -- last week suspended mail delivery to the Democrats' offices. The Republicans also limited their postage to $200 a month, removed parking privileges for the staff members, and canceled cell phones and newspaper subscriptions.

The Democrats say that action was an attempt to deny them the right to communicate with their constituents. They also warned it would awaken a sleeping giant of people who before had been apathetic to the political process.

2. This reminds of the story - Mutiny on the Bounty
When Captain Bligh said to Flecther Christian, "I ask for no quarter and I give no quarter" when being put out to the open sea in a
small boat, with little provisions.

The dems gotta stay tough like Bligh - even though Bligh appeared to be a terrible man.

3. TX repukes have no heart
I'm afraid for our Texas Senate Dems and their staffs because trying to ask for mercy from these cut throat thugs is pointless. They'd cut their own mothers off life support. I think the real story is to get more media and Texas voter sympathy for their staff. I'm already with them so I hope this does get some wider distribution so that more Texans get mad and call these a-hole repukes and get them to stop this bull shit. These heartless bastards cut thousands of children off the CHIP program and are throwing lots of elderly and poor people off what little safety net of social services we had, so they won't care about cutting these staff employees off of anything.

4. I believe holding up mail is a violation of the Civil Rights Act
of 1964. They seem to forget that Dem Senators represent voters.

7. It *is* illegal to mess with the mail, isn't it?
Those Dems have had lawyers working with them all along the way. If this is illegal, surely they'll get on it.

and they don't act this way...this is petty stuff and
someone with some integrity in that party should shut
this Perrymandering down.

9. Oh yes,
9 of the Texas 11 are minorities, representing largely minority districts. The Rethuglican TX Senate delegation is lily-white. They do not approve of the diligent representation being provided by the minority Senators for their largely minority constituents, so they will continute to impose penalties upon them.

10. Yes, but
didn't the Thugs commit a federal offense by holding up their mail?

How are they exempt from that law? Are they immune from prosecution while conducting State business or something?
