FirstEnergy linked to the worst blackout in America loses power
Guardian Unlimited
UK
Tuesday August 19, 2003

The Ohio-based company linked to the worst blackout that America has ever faced is struggling with more than $12.5bn in debt. It was recently forced to restate last year's results and has caused controversy with its environmental and safety records.

Early indications from officials investigating the blackout have led them to the failure of a handful of lines in the Cleveland area owned by the firm, FirstEnergy Corporation.

The company said at the time it might issue equity to keep its debt rating, which is hovering just above the junk level. But Merrill warned that the blackout could spark a damaging spiral.

7. Ah,Yes
Thank You for that enlightning report, what a famililiar senario with the corporate whores kissing the ass of the republiCON money machine. Only this time it blew up in their faces as a masive power outage because of mismanagement of their own infrastructure. How can they possibly attend to the business of power generation and transmission when they are just so busy pandering to RepubliCON candidates. This is the very same plan they have for the rest of us and what's left of our government. Letting the infrastructure of the whole country go to hell along with the middle class.

8. Table 1: The Bush Energy Transition Team
Tony Alexander
President

First Energy Corp.

Electricity/
Nuclear power/
Oil & gas

First Energy is nation's 10th-largest investor-owned electric utility, and owns fossil and nuclear power plants; the company also produces and sells oil and gas; a Bush "pioneer" (raised more than $100,000 in individual contributions to the George W. Bush presidential campaign)

2. If this company is in such bad financial shape
How the hell can Tony Alexander afford to be a Bu$h pioneer and continue to give repugs hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations?

I wonder how much money he's stashed in offshore banks?
