Energy Dept. Will Take Control of Blackout Investigation
The Department of Energy has agreed to lead a sweeping investigation to determine precisely how a huge swath of the nation's electrical system collapsed last week, draining power from tens of thousands of miles of high-voltage electrical lines, leaving millions in the dark and inflicting widespread damage on local economies from Detroit to New York.

Energy Department officials said that the investigation would employ hundreds of experts from federal agencies, national laboratories and the organizations that control the flow of electricity on the nation's power grid, and would take responsibility for discovering an answer outside an industry organization that had been leading the initial inquiry.
...
Mr. Abraham promised explicitly that the investigation would make no attempt to shield the electric power industry from responsibility for the blackout, the largest in the nation's history. But Mr. Abraham also made clear that he took a dim view of early speculation on the causes of the blackout. Some experts have pointed to failures in high-voltage transmission lines controlled by FirstEnergy Corporation, in Ohio, as the first of a cascade of failures in the catastrophe.

You forgot something at the end.

Let's recap, shall we?:

A genuinely popular, legally elected, dem administration is accused of anything and everything, all the time, and they get the most rabid, rightwingnut repukes to "investigate" it all - just to "be fair" - with the tacit approval of the majority party of dems in power at the time.

Now:

A repuke, illegally installed, lieing, cheating, thieving all the time, scumbag misadministration MAY get an investigation finally after all this time and clear evidence of major crimes, by the same repuke party in power, and they get the most rabid, rightwingnut repukes to "investigate" it all - just to "be fair".

Am I missing something here?!

I am sure you will be completely and utterly forthcoming and candid.

Especially after Unca Dick growls at you.

After which, the grid will be upgraded by Halliburton.

9. The progressive-killer cabal's been working to their ends ...
since the '40s -- and earlier. They must keep to their course, continue shoveling lives into the machine, or their argument for divine destiny of the fittest reads like a thief's ruse. Anything short of massive and thorough ethics cleanup would find the same bandits behind the scenes, still at the helm. Oldschool commie-haters, segregatioinist sourpusses, bureaucrats and inside operators who'd fade from importance in a heartbeart if not for a compliant and dumbed-down populace. No less venomous than their predecessors seventy years previous. Like them, salivating at every new eruption of prison-based commerce, at each fresh gallows built.

"Rotten Winners" by William Greider 30july'03/... The same scandals persist across decades, the victims are the same hapless investors. There is not much appetite in Congress to take on such weighty matters, especially during the fund-raising season for the next election. ...

22. Terrorist Squirrels
After an exhaustive and expensive $40M investigation the Energy Department has determined that the largest blackout in American history was the direct responsibility of a particularly active family of Suicide Eastern Grey Squirrels with links to the Al Queda network.

There is an unconfirmed report from the Justice Department that this group of felonious rhodents were trained in Afghanistan to chew through insulators in order to short out critical power lines and cause the blackout. Attorney General Ashcroft said he would neither confrim nor deny the report for National Security Reasons.

Here we go again! I don't believe it.

Why haven't we heard or seen from that bunker dickie guy that's hiding the energy documents. Why isn't the top dogs
in the media getting an interview with Kennth Lay to find out his expertise, Kenny boy has experience with these kind
of shut downs.

Now we get this stupid ugly fucking Spencer Abraham to lie and spin us around, where in the living fuck does this administration
find all these genetic rejects? Worse yet how can folks living in America be so fucking ignorant?

Let's rename this country, how does Carlyle United sound?

Only lapdogs. This is evidenced by the fact that bu$h has blamed his whores twice now for their 'March to War' antics (that somehow slowed the economic 'recovery') and they have not once countered the charge!

The former top dogs are now merely poodles.

18. This is a terrible mistake.
The Energy Department should be the subject of its own investigation. During the Clinton era, these boys were meeting with private corporations that dealt with energy products. They had everything to gain from a change in the administration to a Republican presidency. I know a civilian who did business with them, and he came back with tales of how much the people he spoke with in the E.D. hated Clinton and distrusted him.

I think we now have another situation of the fox guarding the hen house.

19. Fox, henhouse
Let's see, the Energy Dept is in charge of enforcing regulations on electric utilities. One of those utilities may have been "bending" the rules and the Energy Dept didn't find it out until all hell broke loose. Now we are going to let the Energy Dept investigate why it didn't know what it is charged by law with knowing? Makes sense to me. On the other hand, when shit happens on your watch, some people resign, Mr. Abraham. Just a thought.

Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 10:25 PM by depakote_kid
is liable to backfire on them this time. There is simply to much evidence and too many people (especially insiders) adversely affected by the corruption of deregulation.

Add in Cheney's contuining refusal to divulge who the participants were and what went on in his "energy task force" meetings, and you've got a real hot potato~ during an election year. At the very least, it puts the Republicans and their media allies on the defensive, causing them to divert more resources into telling ever more implausible lies.

Any way you look at it, that's a losing proposition for the GOP.
