Bush Job Performance Continues to Slip; Re-elect Numbers Worsen; 43%-43% Bush vs. any Democratic Contender; Slight Bump in Overall Opinion, New Zogby Poll Reveals

President George W. Bush’s job performance rating has slipped to 52% positive, 48% negative, according to a poll of 1,011 likely U.S. voters by Zogby International. From a post-September 11th peak of 82%, his rating has slipped steadily with the exception of a slight increase following the official end of the war in Iraq.
<snip>

Any Democrat with a suit and a shoe shine is now 43%- 43% against a sitting "Wartime" president.

The worm has turned.

52% feel positively about the job he's doing, but 9% don't think doing a good job is worth another vote? Screwballs, but I'll take 'em.

30. America ia finally feeling the pain, THE PAIN, of this fraud in Office
He and his gang must stay up late at night, burning the midnight oil, trying to save his arrogant ass.

But when his case is built on soggy soft foundations of muddy lies, he was bound to slip, to fall, and to be exposed for what he is: a FAKE PREZ

He is not for America, he is for himself and buddies.

His speeches, his body language, his swagger, his demeanor, are all so telling. He is failing to convince the masses who tire of his shit. And finally, it is starting to show. Soon a ground swell.

I can hear him swearing to his troopers in the basement.... but to no avail. It starts with him. Its beyond the spin now. Too little too late..

Come, we make big luau, celebrate.

These numbers obviously aren't going to be the same come election day, but let's hope the trend continues. Once the democratic nominee is selected, we could see a reasonably dramatic change.

Preferably in our favor.

If that happens I think McCain will be the GOP nominee. He'll be tough to beat but I could live with him as President. I'd actually take him over Lieberman any day of the week.

BTW - I don't think it will be a scandal that will sink Bush. It will be the war in Iraq and the economy.

39. Maybe all along, but especially now after his recent trip to Iraq,
McCain is painting himself into the same corner as Bush* and the PNACers. He's gung-ho for doing "whatever it takes" to win in Iraq. More troops, more money, for however long. If things go badly, as they seem likely to do, he will have to do a turn-around and come up with some real ideas about how to solve the mess. Not sure he's good at backing down or admitting he's wrong.

When Clinton and Carter moved things into a flow toward possible peaceful resolution, McCain was flecky with jingo fear-mongering, MacArthur-like puffing. Spooked me, even though today I like his straight talk, usually, and integrity, usually.

40. A daring thought...since I agree somewhat.
So you see McCain contesting in primaries and winning?

With "two senior White House officials" heading toward a rendezvous with felony conviction, do you not think a spreading stain will drag aWol down?

Totally wild spec at this point of course.

But I agree that bushwa never had what it takes to endure the gauntlet he is spiraling down, handler tricks notwithstanding.

Or maybe those who must be obeyed will cut the loss, and we'll get to here the chimp: "I'll not seek..........nor will I seek..I accept...I'll...I'llll..won't be fooled again."

48. McCain is pure speculation
I can see Bush finishing his term but I also see a repetition of LBJ. He either loses in New Hampshire or wins by such a narrow margin that his campaign is irrevocably damaged. By Super Tuesday he is toast.

If Bush looks vulnerable you can bet that McCain and posssibly a couple of others will jump into the race.

* will not be the GOP candidate for President in 2004.

Wow, I can't say it won't happen, but it would take a crash-and-burn of catastrophic proportions for Chimp to fail to take the nomination. A sitting president hasn't failed to take his party's nomination since something like 1880 (the historians on this board can give the exact date.) He would have to do something to really piss off his base for them to turn against him like that.

I'm not saying Smirk deserves the nomination. But remember, the people going to the GOP convention will be Freeper types, not the average Joe on the street. As long as they love their Bush, their tax cuts, and their flag-waving, that's all that matters to them.

20. This is a poll that really matters
because Zogby polls likely voters, not just registered voters or the public at large. What I find interesting is that Bush's favorable rating is higher than his overall rating. Also, this poll was done while Shrub was on vacation, and the partisan environment has died down temporarily.

28. There aren't oversamples
Oversampling is a specific method of taking a much larger sample of a smaller subgroup, like doing a poll of 1,000 with an oversample of 400 hispanics.

Zogby also weights for party affliation, which as far as I know, no other major firm does.

there is NO slight bump in his ratings. The one last month had it at 53% to 46%. With the margin of error I suspect jr. has fallen below 50 already, what will happen then? These are the highest disapproval numbers I have seen yet and at 43 to 43 the battle over the 14% who haven't decided (or have no brain cells) ought to be interesting.

Perhaps they will suspend elections because a "dirty bomb" detonates in the Oakland port the Monday before the Tuesday election.

What about computer polling machines controlled by Repuke companies?

Again, for the umpteenth time:

Not during the Civil War with fighting only a few miles from the capital.

Not during WWI or II.

37. Don't read too much into the election numbers.
Unnamed candidates tend to do better than individual candidates. People may have a growing disaffection with Bush, but unless the Dem candidate runs a great campaign, we're going to lose on the "War on Terror" issue alone. This campaign needs to be about going for the jugular, pointing out how Iraq has been a failure, how Bush went AWOL and why the economy has nose-dived..nothing less than eviscerating the man is going to get us this election.

My point is to take an evening in poll numbers with a grain of salt. Republicans have traditionally been able to pick up about a 5% advantage in an election simply by spouting patriotic nonsense, so we've got a long way to go before the president is in real trouble.

I really wonder if this month is the Tipping Point. Blackout, more of the economy, more death and chaos, al quaida resurgence FINALLY shown on mainstream news, and * freakin' so much he pre-records his 'live' statements.

that even vote-fixing a win was out of reach.

Nixon's study of "no election" in a national emergency, and the McCarran Act camps they would have to fill, would be just too much trouble, and messy.

Easier to put in a sub, slime the dem six ways to Sunday with $300,000,000, and then use the machines to finesse a closer vote.

W's Drop Dead number is reelect at 38%, when even the most brutal negative campaign wouldn't be able to save him. That would be November/December at the present rate of decline of -1.5% a month.

They are going to be able to get W back to 45% or 47% sometime next year. Very fragile support, though. It'll be interesting to see what they decide to do. Try to win, or give up and openly loot the country for all it's worth.

This one ends in a whimper rather than a bang.

72. I think they are already openly looting the country
So they may just call it mission accomplished and retire. Then again, greed doesn't die and these folks aren't particularly smart so they'll probably run him and count on the voting machines.
If that doesn't look promising they may make a martyr out of him and coast on that. Not smart, but very ruthless. The real reason for the fear behind * eyes.

63. I take little solace in these numbers
It is still amazing to me that he can have numbers anywhere near 50% considering how bad a job he's done. This still seems to indicate that if things get only slightly better than disasterous he will be zooming up to 60% in no time.

There is indeed a sucker born every single minute

Ned: I think it's time we start our own Neighborhood Watch!..a-roonie!
Crowd: Yaaaaaaaay!
Ned: Now, who should lead the group?
Guy: You!
Crowd: Yeeeeeaaah!!! Flanders! Flanders! Flanders!
Ned: Well, I don't have really much experience but I'll be..
Moe: Someone else!
Crowd: Yaaaay! Someone else, someone else, someone else!

These numbers give me so much hope. :toast:

65. The only thing
is I remember reading that only two times has a president not been elected when his party has the majority in the house and senate.

Also, remember that this *%#@!! has more up his sleeve than a dirty wrist.

Low poll numbers means a new target must be found asap.
