Dean expects $10 million quarter
http://www.msnbc.com/news/957472.asp?0cv=CB20

Howard Dean’s insurgent campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday raised the bar for third-quarter fund-raising to $10.3 million and announced it would run television ads in six states starting this week.

MOMENTUM AND A surprise windfall of $7.6 million in April, May and June, has forced the former Vermont governor’s one-time small-budget operation to move into higher gear. Recent polls show Dean leading in Iowa and New Hampshire, sites of the 2004 election’s first caucus and primary votes in January.

“Based on what’s coming in at events and online, we now believe we’re on pace to set a goal of $10.3 million,” campaign manager Joe Trippi told reporters at the second-to-last stop on a four-day, 10-city tour.

He said the last Democrat to raise that much in a single quarter in an off year was Bill Clinton in 1995, when he was president.

--snip--

Trippi said the campaign would begin running a television spot later this week in selected markets in Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Washington State and Wisconsin. He expected the cost to be around $1 million.

3. They are setting a really high bar
I hope they make it. They are talking $10 million raised, not in the bank, right? Because they seem to be spending the money almost as fast as it is coming in.

6. They appear to be fairly frugal.
Up until this promo tour, they'd send one point person in before regular scheduled trips and just Dean and his asst Kate travel on commercial airlines- then volunteers kick in.

They rented a smallish RV to travel Iowa. I know the TX ads were paid for with the extra 200 grand that was over the goal of the last funds drive. I've liked what I've seen.

7. Dean supporters
Let's get the "BAT" on www.deanforamerica.com to top one million by midnight. If you haven't contributed lately, now is the time. Hit up your rich relatives if you have to.
