Texas Legislature adjourns special session
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/08/26/texas.redistricting.ap/index.html

The Texas Legislature adjourned its second special legislative session Tuesday without passing a congressional redistricting bill, as Senate Democrats blocked the measure by their self-imposed exile in New Mexico and Republicans fumed.

Tuesday was the 30th day of the 30-day session. Republican Gov. Rick Perry has indicated he would call yet another special session to try to get approval for new congressional boundaries. But he has not said when it would start.

1. Allow me to say . . .
Neener. Neener. Neener.

And Gov. Dolt wants to call another special session? One definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again in hopes of getting a different result.

4. Let's Hope The Hair Helmet Calls Another One
I've been saying for the last month that we'll have to get an act of supreme stupidity (i.e. calling another special session) out of the Austin Hair Helmet and his band of merry men before people in Texas are going to start getting pissed enough to do something about his behavior.

Now is a great time, too, since football training camp is winding down and the media feeding frenzy over "The Big Tuna" and the Baylor fiasco have just about run their course.

Of course he will call another one. There is too much reputation (read: "big pecker syndrome") at stake in this now for the big manly Hair Helmet and his cronies to back down quietly on this issue.

5. A third special session will have to be called
sometime because the Legislature has still not gotten around to its primary job, which was supposed to be figuring out how it will structure financing for public schools before Delay hijacked it. Last I heard, that special session is likely to be delayed until April, after the March primaries. If Gov. Goodhair's going to call another special session on redistricting, he'd better do it damn quick because the filing date for U.S. House seats is Dec. 3 and the U.S. Justice Department has to approve any redistricting plan 60 days before that, which would be Oct. 6. I've heard some scuttlebutt that Perry may put redistricting on the docket whenever the session on public school financing is called and Democrats couldn't afford to skip out, but it seems that would be way too late to affect next year's elections. So this might be the end of it for now, if not for good. However, I wouldn't put anything past these bastids, including postponing the date of the primaries -- and thus the filing date and Justice Department approval date -- if they can figure out how to get away with it.

10. why can't the dems skip the school special session???
I see no reason why they can't. Little Ricky and Davey won't go for
the income tax option, so that leaves them no choices.

Whats he gonna do, raise the sales tax to 10%??? That would be
suicide. The GOP has two choices on school financing, 1) leave it alone,
and 2) state income tax. Which one do you think they will pick???

14. 1.7 Million a pop...
Each session costs that much to convene. I'm not sure what expenses that figure covers, but it's what Molly Ivins says, and I believe EVERY WORD she says!

7. What are they going to have to do NEXT time?
Cross the Rio Grande at 3:00 a.m. in a remote area north of Big Bend National Park? :eyes:

Doesn't this fool ever give up on the idea of wasting taxpayers' money? After this latest episode, I can't imagine that it would look as though he'd be doing anything else even to the UNINTERESTED Texan on the street!

I know an idiot like Delay wouldn't do so, but "Chip" Rove really ought to call Perry and call the whole thing off. It's really hurting the WONDERFUL image of the G.O.P. {sarcasm OFF} right when Dub & Co. need it least--then again, it's helping us right when we could use it MOST!:eyes:

GO TEXAS SENATE DEMS!:kick:

HERE'S TO A JOB WELL DONE!!! :toast:

8. As SOON as the dems are in the AIR a session will be called
That is my guess. Delay and friends will have spys out in NM and as soon as enough Dems get on a plane to fly back he will call the session.

9. Session 3 will start on Thursday.
You heard it here first.

Today - The Dept. of INjustice rules.
Tomorrow - Dem suit dismissed in all likelihood.
Thursday - special session, no 2/3 rule, maps approved, voters screwed.

13. I'll second that "Fuck you, Tom Delay"
That a-hole is building quite a bit of negative karma and one day he will have it all come back to him. I just wish it would happen sooner than later. I'm not willing to write off the Federal court case just yet. The courts force DOJ to do a lot of things they don't want to, so I don't think today's ruling from DOJ is the last word. Call me optimistic, but mad at the same time. So here's another "Fuck you, Tom Delay". We need an icon for that.
