Oxfam pulls foreign workers out of Iraq (International aid workers)

Oxfam has removed its international workers from Iraq due to the security situation, the charity admitted today.

The charity said that its pullout was not just as a result of the bombing last week of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad which left more than 20 people dead, but because of the general breakdown in law and order in Iraq.

Brendan Cox, Oxfam spokesman, said it was increasingly difficult for foreign workers to continue operating in the country.

He added: "The security situation that we are experiencing - the Iraqi people are also having to live with. It's not just the Western agencies who are finding it hard, it's also the Iraqis.

1. The U.S. and Britain are not or cannot live up to their responsibilities .
as occupying powers. Humanitarian workers and UN workers are not safe. The U.S. military presence is simply not getting the job done, quite apart from questions of whether it should have had the job, why it created the job for itself, and so on. There is no longer any justification for continued U.S. and British troop presence in Iraq, assuming there ever was such justification.
