Democrats want election machine firm thrown out (Diebold)
COLUMBUS -- Democratic leaders want a major Republican fund-raiser blocked from becoming the state's new voting machines supplier, saying his presence puts in doubt the fairness of all Ohio elections.

Wally O'Dell, CEO of Diebold Inc., this week sent out letters to central Ohio Republicans asking them to raise $10,000 in donations in time for a Sept. 26 Ohio Republican Party event at his home.

His company, which specializes in security and election machinery, is one of three under consideration to supply new, electronic voting machines to replace punch card machines still in use in 71 Ohio counties.

House Minority Leader Chris Redfern, D-Catawba Island, and Senate Minority Leader Greg DiDonato, D-New Philadelphia, on Tuesday petitioned Secretary of State Ken Blackwell to drop O'Dell's company from the list of potential suppliers, saying his presence could undermine Ohio's entire election system

7. It would seem that a company competing to supply voting machines ...
would stay away from partisan activity. But, then, this is Dubya's America, where the emperor's wife can be a harlot.

Diabold needs to be kept as far from elections as possible. They have proven themselves to be either intentionally incompetent or just plain inept on voting security. This in addtion to the points made by Ohio Dems.

13. Why doesn't a Democrat start his own voting machine company?
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 02:18 PM by Old and In the Way
Wonder how the Republican's would view that?

Seems that the only way to assure a fair vote is to print a copy of the vote in the booth and then optical scan it. Optical scan should match touchscreen results. If there are discrepancies, the printed tally is the ultimate source.

That addresses speed and accuracy....so what's the problem, Diebold?

16. You've got that right!! And Diebold isn't alone...and they're prepared
to sell off part of the company so the voting machines will be under a different company by the time elections come around...a different company that will hold States to the contracts Diebold got them to sign.

O8) SOOOOOO PROUD OF THE DU BBV TEAM!!! And all the great people who are getting active on the local level to get this mess under control before it's too late!! O8)

Thanks to all!!

18. Got it
Free and fair elections will mean that the republicans will lose. They woulda lost in 2002 but we wern't hip to the con then. Thanks to Bev, et al, we've got a leg up on the cons now. It ain't over yet, but democracy should be the eventual winner. It had better be, eh?

20. Did You Catch THIS Line???
In his invitation O'Dell states his support for the Republican Party and notes he is "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the President next year."

From the CEO of Diebold, no less.

Folks, this is 100% pure evil! We must stop Diebold at all costs!
