Perle cites errors in Iraq, urges power transfer
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=564&ncid=716&e=14&u=/nm/20030827/ts_nm/iraq_usa_perle_dc

PARIS (Reuters) - Richard Perle, a leading Pentagon adviser and architect of the U.S. war to topple Saddam Hussein, said the United States had made mistakes in Iraq and that power should be handed over to the Iraqis as fast as possible.

In an interview with the Le Figaro daily newspaper to be published Thursday, Perle defended the U.S.-led war in Iraq and restated his belief that France had been wrong to lead international opposition to the conflict.

"Of course, we haven't done everything right," said Perle, according to the French text of the interview. "Mistakes have been made and there will be others.

... "Today, the answer is to hand over power to the Iraqis as soon as possible," he added.

10. Perle, that piece of merde, owns a place in France . . .
I wish he'd get the hell out of here. His presence fouls la belle France . . . and he embodies every disgusting reason that's propelling me to move here.

Isn't it hypocritical to now adopt the views of the French, to admit that we need to get out of Iraq ASAP, perhaps even a MISTAKE to go in there, and then to condemn the French for not being as stupid as the American Administration and Perle himself?

15. Me thinks he is floating a balloon for the misadminstration….
Going into an election year with a bodybag a day coming back, a cost of tens of billions, a deficit that even the IMF is not crazy about and a coalition whose leaders are in deep kaakaa with their constituency. Yeah, Bushco may be looking for a way out….they’ll write the script, hand it to the mediawhores and the public will applaud the troops coming home while acknowledging that shrub gave it a good try to liberate and democratize a non-christian country…..which the public will be told in ad nauseam, is simply not possible and it was time to cut our losses short.

Oh…but, we think Iran can be democratized, so we’re going to go over there and give it another try….troops get a short R & R and they’re off again.

47. Hell no. That dog ain't droppin' the bone. The drip of blood is managable.
I suspect that the wrastling between the State and Defense departments for control of policy is being won by the PNAC faction that refuses to relinquish complete control of Iraq because it is the lynchpin for domination of the planet's oil. Those vultures have come a long way to claim their prize and they will coast on an increasingly uneasy but rediculously ignorant and compliant public and work harder on media spin to buy time past the '04 elections. Don't forget that their answer to 'unhelpful' perceptions of themselves is ALWAYS better PR work, as in a Youth Magazine for Arabs so 'they like us and don't blow us up as much.' And Dems have ben complicit in the Patriot Act and the Bomb Iraq?Whatever You Want To DO-Resolution so they ain't gonna be very contentious. I'm afraid our kids in uniform are in the sand box for a long long time.

No need to stick around anymore, we've successfully destabilized the country. Time to move on and destablized someone else on W's axis of evil list. Pretty soon the whole world will be in chaos and everyone will kill each other. Then Perle and his pals will crawl out of their bunkers and have the whole place to themselves. It's all part of the plan.

29. Perle: now how do we get enough troops for Iran, Syria and NKorea?
clear out of Iraq - but put in privatized army companies (with lots of US dollars - to bribe officials and make sure the new government is friendly)... and move the troops - sans rest - to the next mission. Wash, rinse, repeat. Looks like we leave - but we leave our corporate military organizations in place - with the US paying for it.

Just my take on it. A leopard really does not change spots.

33. Perle's Comments Were Approved by Rove/Bush as Trial Baloon
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 05:25 PM by David Zephyr
This is a very important signal that the Pentagon has told Bush that the U.S. is about to get its ass truly kicked in Iraq and that Bush and Rove had better begin to prepare the American people for a "transfer of power" as quickly as possible to allow us to begin to yank our troops out.

This comes on the heels of Bush's little-boy-tirade yesterday of saying that the U.S. will "never retreat".

Senate Republicans such as Kay Bailey Hutchinson, John McCain and Chuck Hagel have all said that the U.S. needs to immediately put more U.S. troops into Iraq. The Secretary of Defense has said otherwise.

What do these Republicans know that Bush and Rove have been hiding? What is Perle's signal ON FRENCH SOIL signify? I'll tell you.

The U.S. Military in Iraq is about to collapse under the continued popular uprising against our occupation of their land. Chaos is spreading and the Iraqis are becoming bolder and bolder in attacking our troops. Some reports say that our troops are attacked EVERY 20 MINUTES now.

Parents and spouses of loved ones serving in Iraq should be very concerned about their welfare.

Perle's comments were not made "off the reservation". His speaking overseas was pre-approved. It is a way of indirectly beginning to let the American people know that Bush's war is going badly and about to get worse. Perle could safely say this in France to the foriegn press without being immediatley questioned by an inquisitive U.S. media on the significance of his obvious contradiction of Bush's statements yesterday.

We should all keep our eyes open throughout the next two weeks to see what other signs that Bush and Rove begin to send us and the world about their intentions TO RETREAT.

I expect we will be seeing Colin Powell working 24/7 at the U.N. and with NATO and begging them for help.

The U.S. is paying $26,000 to Poland for every single soldier that they have placed in Iraq.

The U.S. taxpayers can not underwrite this operation anymore.

Our U.S. soldiers can not defend themselves against an armed and popular uprising by the Iraqi people.

How many more billions of dollars in debt will George Bush allow this nation to sink before he goes hat in hand to the U.N. and asks for help?

How many more American men and women will die in Iraq before George Bush tells Bechtel and Halliburton that he will have to break his promise of contracts to them by allowing the French and Germans and Russians and Indians and Japanese to share the load, the responsibility and...their own blood for oil?

37. Perle and Kristol want to stop the bad PR on the invasion before it
jeopardizes the next invasion. Look for US troops to begin turning over control of parts of Iraq to local Iraqis and withdrawing to a position with an easily defended perimeter and an airfield. That position will be the staging area for the next invasion. Whistle Ass wants more war.

41. Richard oh Richard Poor Dear
Wasn't it you that said American children would be singing songs about our invasion of Iraq?

Would that be the quaint diddy "Momma our soldiers went to Iraq and shit fire they didn't come back?"

Momma our soldiers went to Iraq
And shit fire they didn't come back
They're takin orders from a hack
Who talks a load of smack

Heat so hot my blood is boiling
But the troops just keep a toiling
Exxon, Shell, Chevron is seeing oiling
But our blood is flowing on the Earth it's soiling

Momma can we come home soon
And hopefully not in a tomb
We are scared Momma because there isn't much room
And a body bag is not a womb
