The city’s cab drivers and the Atlanta police department are joining forces to fight crime, officials announced Wednesday.

The new community policing program is called Cabbies on Patrol or COPS.

The program will use the nearly 1,600 taxi cabs that operate within the City of Atlanta to notify police of suspicious activities such as vandalism, prostitution, drug activity and driving under the influence.

The cab drivers could also possibly assist in situations such as Amber Alerts. (snip/...)
