Citing a Justice Ministry document, the daily Haaretz reported that Israel asked Austrian authorities for co-operation in determining from whose Austrian bank accounts Sharon's son Gilad received hundreds of thousands of dollars in November and December.
The transfers allegedly enabled Gilad, a businessman, to help repay illegal campaign contributions for his father, the newspaper said.
The Justice Ministry request came as part of an Israeli investigation into financing irregularities in his 1999 election campaign. Sharon's son has declined comment.
...the state comptroller reported Sharon's other son, Omri, now a member of parliament, improperly raised money outside Israel from a company called Annex Research for his father's successful 1999 campaign to win leadership of the Likud Party.
