Arnold Unplugged - SPREAD THIS STORY FAR AND WIDE
Arnold Unplugged - It's hasta la vista to $9 billion if the Governator is selected

This was posted in GD - but it needs wide distribution in a hurry.

http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=283&row=0

Now, thirty-four pages of internal Enron memoranda have just come through this reporter's fax machine tell all about the tryst between Maria's husband and the corporate con men.  It turns out that Schwarzenegger knowingly joined the hush-hush encounter as part of a campaign to sabotage a Davis-Bustamante plan to make Enron and other power pirates then ravaging California pay back the $9 billion in illicit profits they carried off.

Is Cruz not geting coverage or is he not talking about it. If not, why not.

1. If Governor Schwarzenegger acts a Palast predicts
. . . then we'll just recall the bastard. This would be a far better reason than any given to recall Davis.

It's an interesting theory that Palast presents. It's not easy to dismiss out-of-hand. Palast has an excellent track record on matters such as this.

2. I'm not sure that given this situation
we could, in good conscience, sit by and watch this possibly be put in motion. Michael Moore has been asking this question about Lay and Arnold for some weeks now.

26. This is the Smoking GUN--IMPEACH ARNOLD!
There is no reason why the California Assembly cannot vote to impeach him based on this, unless the Democrats are spineless!

IMPEACH ARNOLD!

Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 11:04 PM by rocknation
And never mind worrying about what the press is saying about it. It's up to US to to get the word out--to the bloggers, the other liberal web sites, via letters to the editor, to the copy machines at the local stationery store to be handed out. I'm on the wrong coast--it's all on you, California! You've got the skinny on Arnold's Enron meeting and only ninety-six hours, SO GET TO WORK!!!!! (And pray that Palast hasn't been set up...)

It needs bigtime exposure. I just sent it to my entire list. Can Bev Harris get this story some play? How about Will and kef, over at Truthout?

9. This story has been out there for a while
although without some of the details that Greg Palast has provided.

I'm amazed that Davis hasn't used this in ads. I'm 100% he, or his people are aware of the meetings. This would be far more devastating for Ahnold than all the groping stories.

21. It may have been on Net, but not in mainstream media
I haven't read this in the LA Times for instance.
The San Jose Mercury should get on this one.

22. That's true
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 09:46 AM by Jack Rabbit
In Britain, Palast writes for the Guardian and appears on the BBC, but in his own country he is exiled from the mainstream media. This has a lot to do with the fact that he digs up stories that corporate America finds inconvenient. Palsast not only finds the story about the illegal disenfranchizement of Florida voters ahead of the 2000 election (without which Gore would have easily carried the state), but even tells us about the dealings of Barrick Goldstrike with companies that engage in the wholesale murder of Tanzanian miners.

Consequently, Palast's main audience in the US on the Net, a medium relatively free of corporate sponsorhsip. He is seldom seen on American television or heard on American radio, media thoroughly corrupted by corporate sponsorship.

As a result, this story will be slow to disseminate. It probably will have no effect on the election Tuesday.

However, as far as this Californian is concerned, the people's money is currently in the lairs of corporate pirates like Ken Lay. I want it back -- all of it, with interest. If, as Palast predicts, Schwarzenegger drops the pursuit of this money because of his connection with the thieves, then he is no better than a thief. It would provide solid ground to remove him from office.

The GOP, through the recall of Governor Davis for only vague reasons, has lowered the bar for recall well below being an accessory to robbery. They would have no right to complain if California voters move against Arnold for being in bed with Enron, Reliant, Duke and the rest.

They may be able to use the info on Monday's show. The way they have been taking off after Bush & Co., they may be up for this.

11. I have a couple of 'bob killer' questions
dont shoot me - i'm just asking... i think arnold is just as big a prick as you do

ok - so he met with enron 10 days into the blackouts. Where were we at that point - I remember the cali govt looking to the energy dept to intervene in the markets, but i think that was before we got to blackouts. Was Davis threatening this sort of legal action?

From reading the emails, it looks as if Arnold was invited almost as an aside to inviting Riordan - and it certainly looks as if the idea was to garner republican support from a potential future republican governor against the screams from sacremento that deregulation was bad.

Now - will Arnold cut a deal, now that the suit is raised? good question. i'd be willing to put money on yes - but i'm not sure this meeting provides enough of a smoking gun that theres some sort of conspiracy at work here. I think he'll do it just because he's a prick.

14. there it is...
"A week before the meeting, Davis signed legislation to create a state power authority that would buy, operate and build power plants in lieu of out-of-state energy companies, such as Enron, that the governor alleged was ripping off the state."

trying to get 9 Billion back from Enron and that, if Arnold's the next governor, CA will never see that money.

Why don't they tell us that?

29. Now I understand why * didn't indict Lay. His work is not finished.
When the world finds out about Lay is about to accomplish, only the threat of physical violence is going to keep the mob from killing them all.

Remember Romania - don't think it can happen here? The crimes are much greater here in terms of scale and scope.

PRIVATE MEETING: Chairman pitches his plan to prominent Californians

Energy executive Kenneth Lay, head of powerful Enron Corp., quietly courted Arnold Schwarzenegger, Richard Riordan, Michael Milken and other luminaries this week in Beverly Hills to drum up support for his solution to California's energy crisis.

His prescription called for more rate increases, an end to state and federal investigations and less rather than more regulation.

Lay, a close friend of President Bush and one of his largest campaign contributors, hosted a private 90-minute meeting in a conference room at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills on Thursday.

Among the participants were Milken, the former head of the Drexel Burnham Lambert investment banking firm who pleaded guilty to fraud charges in 1990 and who now runs a think tank based in Santa Monica; movie star Schwarzenegger; and Riordan, the mayor of Los Angeles. Schwarzenegger and Riordan have been courted recently as GOP gubernatorial candidates.
