Spinning Kay report
WHITE HOUSE EXPLANATIONS about our invasion of Iraq are starting to gain an "Alice in Wonderland" quality with the arrival of the long-awaited report by David Kay. Our fears about Iraq's plans to develop weapons of mass destruction are well founded, said President Bush after presenting Kay's preliminary report on his 3-month search for the infamous chemical and biological weapons of Saddam Hussein.

When Kay announced that the most dangerous thing he found a was a single vial of live botulinum toxin in the home of an Iraqi biological weapons scientist, Bush felt vindicated. Botulinum toxin could be developed into a deadly form of botulism. Or, it could be turned into Botox, a wrinkle remover for the scientist's wife.

Besides the dire implications that news has in some Tri-Valley country clubs or a few Lamorinda doctors' offices, is that enough for the president to declare that the long-anticipated Kay report justifies the war with Iraq? We don't think so.
