Harris' refund offer goes begging

So this column is really about our own member of Congress: Katherine Harris.

Five months ago, I wrote about her relatively tiny problem with that same defense contractor.

As you might recall, Rep. Harris, now running for the Senate, last year got $50,000 in campaign contributions from MZM and various employees of the company or their family members. Harris was running for re-election to the House then.

The MZM employees who donated all gave Harris checks for the maximum allowable donations: $4,000 each.

Later, when MZM management was being targeted in a bribery investigation, some former employees were quoted in newspaper reports saying they had been coerced by superiors at the company to make those donations, to Harris and Cunningham.

I ride by Katherine's office everyday and flip the the bird.

We were told by management at Camber Corp that their goal was 100% participation in donating to their lobbying PAC (which gives way more to republicans - for 2006 they are at 100% donations to republicans).

They didn't tell us how much to give, but it was a stated goal to have everyone without exception donate something. I didn't give anything, and they didn't confront me directly about it, but I'm not happy that we were told we were expected to - if I were more of a brown-noser I might have done it.

(Disclaimer: I liked working for them and they treated their employees very well, I mostly have good things to say about them, but that one aspect rubbed me the wrong way.)
