A cop's letter that should shame every Albany politician
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/374843p-318417c.html

By DETECTIVE ADAM FRASSE

Brooklyn Detective Adam Frasse has a message for New York politicians stalling on tougher gun laws: Do the right thing.

Nearly three years ago, Detective Adam Frasse delivered a eulogy for his friend Detective Rodney Andrews executed, along with his partner, James Nemorin, during an undercover operation to get illegal guns off the streets. Frasse launched a campaign to get tougher laws passed against gun traffickers. But his efforts have been all but ignored in Albany - most notably by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. Here is his open letter to anyone who can make a difference:

The recent tragic murders of two police officers in New York have brought the issue of tougher gun laws to the front pages.

New York State's laws concerning gun ownership are among the toughest in the union. But the state's laws regarding the possession, use and sale of illegal firearms fail miserably to deter gun violence.

Now more than ever, New York's Finest are paying the price in blood.

1. Freeper response:
well if the laws aren't working, then we should just get rid of all gun laws.

2. Or the other excuse
Guns don't kill people, people kill people, so we need more death penalties in more states and they need to get rid of trial lawyers too. After all they are slowing down the death sentence by actually defending people accused of crimes.

6. Guns don't kill people, people kill people
If we got rid of guns, we'd see a dramatic increase in the number of drive-by stabbings.

3. Hoplophobe response:
The laws aren't affecting criminals now so we have to add more for them to ignore.

4. That's right...
... as soon as we pass the ultra-special-double-secret-probabtion laws, the criminals will fall in line.

You can't talk reason on this issue on this board. Some people just think they can pass a law and utopia will spring forth.
