Foreign-born easy target for Bush
The people invading your privacy are from the government, and they're here to help you. They just don't want you to know they're helping you. No one could ever accuse the Bush administration of not knowing how to keep a secret. Whether it is trying to keep under wraps the proceedings of deportation hearings, or hiding the existence of CIA-run secret prisons on foreign soil, keeping a lid on things is what this bunch does best.

And don't fall for the line about how this is necessary with the country at war. Even before the war on terror, the administration withheld the names of energy industry executives who met with Vice President Cheney to create national energy policy.

.......

It sounds like the administration is assuming that Americans care less about protecting the rights of foreigners than those of the native-born. It's done this before; many of the post 9/11 "reforms" adopted by the administration targeted the foreign-born.

It's not that the Bush White House is xenophobic (that's a different branch of the Republican family tree). It's just that, in times of crisis, governments tend to go after the foreign-born first. Whichever attack here or overseas, cracking down on foreigners is like picking low-hanging fruit.

And why is that? Sorry. That's classified.

1. What crisis?
The true crisis here are multiple; health care, education; and social programs for the poor.

W said he was against nation building in the election when he was talking about foreign governments. Now he's rejecting our tax dollars being paid to help our own.

2. That's just like Jeb's scandal
with all the missing kids who disappeared from the adoption centers. The author has it wrong by the way: Bush is too stupid and vindictive to keep secrets (eg Plame and illegal wiretaps).
