GOP's courting of blacks failing
CLARENCE LUSANE
The Republican Party is trying to dress up in blackface to win the fall elections ...

GOP officials want black Republican candidates in blue (or bluish) states to siphon off just enough black votes from Democrats to squeak across the finish line first ...

A May 26 Gallup Poll indicated that black support for Bush had dropped to 11 percent. He is inching closer to Ronald Reagan for the title of black America's most disliked president ...

The resistance of black voters to the Republican Party has little to do with the color of the candidates and everything to do with the nature of the party's policies. This includes the twin calamities of Katrina and Iraq, as well as affirmative action, tax cuts, the minimum wage, immigration and education, just to name a few ...

1. Most Sane People Aren't Into Abusive Relationships
Unlike the RW Evangelical whackjobs.

If the GOP wants to court anybody beyond their "base", they are going to have to adopt some different tactics.

2. Let's see
The 'pub's think they can get the black vote by saying "look here we hate the same people you do"
most of black americans remember that they were on that list too at one time, before the only color that mattered was green.

7. How 'bout their talking point regarding gov assistance?
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 02:02 AM by seasat
Now, I'm white so I'm not sure how blacks feel about this, but I imagine it ticks them off. I hear or read from Repugs all the time, the talking point, that liberals have kept the black man down by keeping them hooked on welfare. That blacks should vote Repug because they support self sufficiency. Basically, to me, it sounds like they are saying that blacks vote Democrat because they are lazy and stupid. The welfare dependency thing is a myth (Repugs really need to look at the stats and the '96 welfare reform provisions). If I was black, I'd take this as an insult and not vote for any Repug. Have any black DUers heard this line? What do y'all think of it?
