Solving the world's problems - behind closed doors
BEAVER CREEK - Organizers say the World Forum went well over the weekend at Beaver Creek

. . .

The American Enterprise Institute, a Washington, D.C., conservative think tank, co-hosts the event with the Vail Valley Foundation. The event ran Thursday through Sunday.

This year's attendees included Cheney, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt, Education Secretary Margaret Spellings, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Colorado Gov. Bill Owens, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and Google CEO Eric Schmidt. Vail Resorts Chief Executive Officer Rob Katz also attended.

. . .

This year's event was completely closed to the public, and there was little publicity about the event beforehand.

. . .

Topics this year included "The World Economy," "The Media in an Internet Age," "International Security," "Are We Making Progress in Fixing Our Schools?" "Immigration, Who Gets Through the Gate?" "Can China Be a Good Neighbor?" and "Drastic, But Feasible Changes to the Health Care System."

4. Scams Come From Behind Closed Doors; Public Policy Is Open Debate!
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 06:32 AM by Demeter
Other than sex, only crime needs secrecy and privacy to get a good start. Perhaps that's why the GOP considers sex a crime? And finds crime so sexy?

Talk about mixed up people!

But solutions for public issues come from public discourse and freedom to speak the truth and to hear the truth, and to make up one's own mind.
