Female Base for Hillary in '08 Isn't A Gimme

http://www.alternet.org/story/38144/

"I would be really disappointed if Hillary Clinton were the first woman president," said Medea Benjamin, a self-described feminist and founder of Code Pink, a women-initiated antiwar group based in Venice, Calif. (snip)

But many women are not giving Clinton the reflexive support that might be expected, saying they'd rather support a man who shares their ideological views than a woman who shares their biological makeup. Code Pink's Benjamin, for instance, likes Sen. Russ Feingold, the Wisconsin Democrat who authored legislation calling for the withdrawal of nearly all U.S. troops from Iraq by July 2007.

Others have taken Clinton to task for declining to support universal health care, an issue that women's rights activists say would benefit women because they are often left without health insurance if they take time off work to care for family members.

"We're definitely disappointed," said Allison Guttu of the New York-based Women's Liberation Social Wage Committee. "It seems as if she's ignoring feminists and that she's ignoring feminist demands."

Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 12:00 PM by ixion
I don't get it.

It's suicide to run Hillary Clinton for pResident in 08, IMO. I don't understand why it's still on the table.

Oh, yeah... the DLC is pushing it. That explains it. :puke:

2. Yep, the DLC and the Neocons.

The right-wing loves to use Hillary to motivate thier rabid base but when it comes down to it, a DLC pro-war candidate like Hillary is the best person they could lose to.

A real Democrat could take the bully pulpit and position our party for the next thirty years of rule. Republican-lite DLCers like Hillary will of course open the door for another four years of bullshit scandals that damage our party, and move our party away form our progressive values.

4. You got that right
The only ones I ever hear pushing an H. Clinton for president is the right wing. I don't think she even wants to run. But the RW is slobbering over it.

3. Here's a hint: It's now a CORPORATE Media...
and the DLC is the CORPORATE faction of the Democrats. Hillary is a Grand Poobah of the DLC. So....

The CORPORATE Media is pushing the Grand Poobah of the CORPORATE faction of the Democrats. That, and they know what great "news" the daily mud-fights between Hillary and the GOP candidate will make, and that could mean a huge ratings coup.

It's all so shabby and cynical, it makes me want to hurl.
