This Is Not A Christian Nation
This Is Not A Christian Nation

By Cenk Uygur

I am an American.

My name is not Jimmy Johnson, it is not Virgil Goode and it is not John McCain. But I am an American. No more, no less than any of these people.

My name is Cenk Uygur. And I am proud of it. It might sound a little different to your ear, but it doesn't make it any less American. That's the whole point of the country. If I wanted to live in a place where your race, ethnicity or religion mattered, there were plenty of other countries to choose from. I chose to be an American because I believed we were all equals in the eyes of the law...

For the rest:

2. Great essay, K&R
and shame on those fundamentalist scumballs who voted "present."

3. It's not only different religions that some of our Congress people can't abide (note that all those
voting 'present' have a R beside their names). I was reading about the latest studies showing how the gap between the races is getting greater this morning. Why do we have this large group of people that no longer understand the tenets of democracy and what the Founders hoped to achieve? A good summary of those studies is here: http://mediamatters.org/altercation/index

4. I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots.
- Vice President George H.W. Bush, August 27, 1987

The people running America do not know what it means to be an American.

6. Agree !... however a VERY large percentage of "Americans"
do not agree with us.

and not only on the religion thing... Many believe that you
must also be white... to be a true patriotic American!
